Some, sure, others play for months and have a great time.
You do realize a lot of people can't really be bothered with shady admins on legacy realms, the doubt about servers future (many get taken down or just 'die' for other reasons and people don't really want to spend time with that doubt on the horizon), etc.
It's a whole new ball game having an official Blizzard supported realm.
Who knew!?
With almost every single person who wants Vanilla servers making a thread about QoL must haves that have been implemented over the years on live, but insisting they are nothing at all like every single other thread asking for changes to Vanilla.. let us just say I'm going to enjoy the fallout from this shitslosion from afar.
It's about as accurate as your assumption based on your handful of friends. I mean as long as we're being anecdotal about it almost everyone I know that plays retail is at least somewhat interested in Classic realms, but not one single person I know that's quit WoW is interested in them.
Your idea that most people interested in Classic have stopped playing retail is predicated on the mistaken belief that there was some sort of mass exodus due to the direction of the game rather than the reality that WoW just hit a point where more people were leaving than new people were signing up because it's old as balls. People quit WoW left and right long before we saw the big sub drops, it's just that there was a constant flow of people to replace them. Now there isn't, because a 12 year old game is a very hard sell.
I am hoping this means they are scrapping the project.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!
Yeah, because the "Classic-crowd" didn't flood over forums everywhere to piss over Blizzard, the Live game and the fans of the current game starting with the shutdown of a certain private server and spanning all the way up to... well, now.
It's not very easy for people to "stop pissing" on your interests, when anyone not as fanatical about this crap is branded as "anti-Vanilla Retailer trolls!!" and whatever other derogatory terms your "superior community" has conjured up to fuel the "us vs them"-mentality.

If you wanted senior software engineers, go play retail.
Edit:
(Which is the correct answer to almost anything it seems, and my joke. Before someone thinks I was suggesting wow didn't have good programmers.)

Stupid assumption. They don't care the final product quality. Of course they try to do their best, but once it runs they deliver.
Blizzard must deliver a commercial level product. With an infrastructure that need to sustain hundreds time more connections, adapting the classic netcode to their new servers. They also have to make some design choice private servers just don't have to do, or at least don't suffer any consequences (if a private server choose to nerf a raid or double XP rate, nobody really cares).
Blizzard is well known for being slow at delivering. But with a high level of polish. Classic will be no different.
They took one year for this :
Classic will take longer, not a single doubt. And that's not anti or pro classic. I really can't wait to play it again. Just a fact.
The thread no longer seems to be about Blizzard's hiring strategies so it will be closed. Kind of a thin reed to hang a thread on at that.
For those of you who insist on continuing a discussion about when Classic will launch there's already a long-running thread about that. Also a reminder that it's entirely possible to discuss what's up ahead for Classic without bringing illegal & copyright-infringing stuff into the discussion.
