Merge realms and get the fuck rid of CRZ? HELL YES.
Or they can make them "stack". Just like you can have multiple people with the same BattleTag. Just attach a number to it (ofc the number wouldn't show up everywhere your name is, they can add an option to only show the number when you inspect someone or something like that. Idk, just think of something)
OT: Really want a realm merge.
Great idea. My question is if the servers were to merge all into one, would we then have a character slot to 50 to compensate for that? I mean as it stands I would need a healthy 20 slots. I like the cross realm guilds and trading idea, seems to me it would be more efficient.
Fine merge the dead realms, BUT undo what they did with CRZ to realms like Stormrage, Zuljin, and Ilidan
UN CRZ them. Why my already high pop realm ( I chose for the server community, raid progression, and fluidity of the market has to see and deal with scrub realms is annoying.
They should have CRZ'ed /Merged the shitty servers to begin with.
The time for merging has come and gone. Servers no longer have meaning so no reason to merge... the game has become a lobby game where you queue for stuff. Gone are the days of the MMO.
It's dead due the sharding feature. You don't see 95% of the people around you in the exact zone due sharding not working properly.
Imagine this, you are new to a game, you already pay monthly sub, but you barely see anyone around you while leveling. You know what happens? People leave.
I don't blame them, i wouldn't pay monthly for a MMORPG when there is nobody around.
Sharding makes the game look more dead then it is, so does CRZ sometimes. That is why merging is a great solution.
cross realm guilds and all problems are sorted. the new pvp and pve ruleset in bfa might change a lot of issues with realm population. put more people together. I want the servers to be rather dead. Yes, its a mmo and in raids and dungeons its fine to play with others. Having to wait for mobs out in the world however. Fuck that any day of the week. Its a bit less frustrating now with multi tagging of mobs. But its still a issue with faction tagging and 5 man limit. make just remove tagging alltogher. everyone attacking the mob get the kill, no matter how many attacks it or what faction.
I would rather wait and see how the new system works, than jumping straight into merging.
I don't think they should merge all of them and create one sprawling megaserver, but I've said for years that they should have merged many of these dead servers into a handful of medium-high pop. I don't see it happening anytime soon though. They make too much money off people transferring to the 7-8 overpopulated realms.
Realms should be merged.

Question how do you know it's not working?
Is there some live statistic tracking who's leveling and in what zone, to my knowledge no.
Who besides brand new players in WoW is even leveling in 2018. 14 year old game.
Personally for example, it didn't take me 14 years and i have every class at max level, there's no point to ever level anything again and i'm not going to do it ever again cause i've seen it numerous times, quite frankly 2 loremasters is quite enough, excess after that is pointless, unless there's a new class with expac launch, when you see monks or dks or dhs or whatever leveling out in the world for the first week or two.
Okay that sounds harsh, but i truly think people are overestimating the number of concurrent people leveling in each zone when the leveling revamp even made it possible to level in any zone you want. Dispersing the few people in there even more.
I'm not saying i know the true numbers, just using myself as an example i've been out of the low level leveling for well since MoP launch which is what 5+ years ago.. There's been zero reasons to visit a place like Goldshire in 5 years for me that might be considered a leveling hot spot. This is someone who's done 0 to max 12 times plus hero classes and i haven't had the need to visit Goldshire in 5 years, eventhough i've before at least gone past it 12 times given that 2 are horde characters out of the 12.
Just out of curiosity what that number is for others?
Let's get a number how many people are actually leveling right now and then we divide that with region and the amount of let's say classic zones they can be in and then go further with timezones and times of leveling, are people doing that during prime time, middle of the night, morning?
Having a hard time to believe that the odds that 2 people meet at any given time in a given specific location in the old world are that big even if servers were merged.
Communities yes, in towns etc hot spots, but it happens now already with connected realms, my realm is a dead realm, prior WoD there was 15 active players, now it's connected realm that's enemy faction heavy at 23:1 ration, but Stormwind for example outside of morning hours between 02-07 the market area is filled with people, easily 50-100 people in there at any given time on this less populated faction side. But out in the wild, there's no reason to go there below current zones, unless you're leveling and who is leveling that's my question?
There's study right there.
Make a post here or official forums under leveling, probably the places to reach most players.
Determine a region, then an old world location, specific one (this house right there, still well outside hotspots) and neutral to factions, time preferably during prime time when there's most players logged in few weeks in advance to reach more people, but before raiding hours, then leveling bracket, let's say level 10-58 or whatever is the lowest the new zone level restriction scaling allows, so people can go there without dying. No max levels.
Go there at that time and see how many people turn up on their leveling character. There's some indication on how many people you're actually sharing the 40+ zones in the old continent, not an absolute number cause not everyone reads forums and can't be arsed to do this.
Did you crash the server cause there was 2000 players in the same location or did 10 people show up, wondering what the hell are they doing there. If it's a random low ass level zone without a hotspot, crz should phase a lot of people on the same shard in the location, if you're on a dead realm and crz doesn't "work" and you see no one, make a raid group after few minutes in the finder for people who are supposed to be there to find out if people are actually in there on other shards, bam we also see if crz really works.

Honestly realms are a relic of the game's birth and should have been done away with completely years ago. They should only exist to allow people to have the same name at this point in time. There should be zero need to transfer to join a guild, there shouldn't be any reason to be on the same server to run a raid, none at all.
They've got the tech, they just refuse to take that final step and allow CRZ everything. With BFA removing the divide between PvP and PvE they haven't even got that rule set to use as an excuse anymore. Hell just do the same for RP, a flag toggle on your character, and that's a problem taken care of.
I don't know why they don't, and now don't say character transfer fees, that might be a consideration but I don't think it's the final one. Perhaps they are worried about the bad press if they do a massive merge? Who knows.
