Anything that involves using a sword, my go to is Viggo Mortensen. I think he'd do pretty well.

None, it should be a CGI movie (like Advent Children for example).

Geralt is too cool for any lame-ass actor to play him

If only we had a combination of Christopher Lambert and Mads Mikkelsen

Yep, he was brilliant as Heimdall so he can definitely pull off the sword and sorcery trope.

He wouldn't beat Doug Cockle (very few people can), but I think he'd do well enough. Look him up in youtube, I'm sure there are some interviews.

I mostly know him from Hell on Wheels, but his character there is very Geralt-ish. He fought for the south, they lost, he saw his family die and lives in a country that now hates him and what he represents. He is good at what he does, but what he does is often dirty.

One way or another, he always ends up alone and bitter, but manages to keep a sense of sarcasm and hidden, very fragile emotions. It's a fairly complex character, and he nails it in every episode of a show that, if not for him and Colm Meaney, wouldn't have made it past season 2.

None of the other suggestions look like Geralt, at all. Like, at all. Mads Mikkelsen has a horrible accent that he can't get rid of. Richard Armitage and Karl Urban are just as bad.

Anson Mount looks so much like Geralt with a bit of makeup and has an amazing voice to boot.

He's also American so he doesn't have to fake Geralt's American accent.

    Beyonce, obviously.

If you disagree you are both a racist and a sexist.

    ---

For real though I hope they get someone younger (like late 30s early 40s), not someone who is pushing 50 like all of the suggestions in this thread. If the show is successful and it goes multiple seasons, I'm not keen to see a fat old senior citizen playing Geralt.

    Anson Mount for sure.

I'll give runner up to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays Jaime Lannister. The older he's been getting, the more and more he's starting to look and sound the part.

Edit: I have to change my top pick to Beyonce though. I don't wan't to be racist or sexist.

Anson Mount is 44, and pretty youthful.

Also, do you know how old Geralt is?

That ain't the face of someone in their 30s.

Never considered Richard Armitage but he'd be a fantastic choice IMO. Looks almost identical. The other three named look fuck all like in-game Geralt and would butcher any immersion for me. IMO the character's looks are already set in stone and care should be taken to ensure an authentic experience, rather than just picking someone because they're a good actor. People can get better at acting but not better at convincing me they're Geralt of Rivia if they don't look like him no matter how much makeup or cgi

Anson Mount also a great choice IMO

Yeah what he looks like now is not what he will look like three or four years from now when season two of the show might be happening... Or six years from now when season four might be happening... Etc.

he was great as max, he does really well in roles that dont need much talking and communicate half their dialogue with grunts. remind you of anyone?

    Idris Elba

    Fight me...

No but seriously, it'd be right up his ally in that he's played complex, chaotic good protagonists before. it's kind of his thing.
