CNN town hall on gun control

Anyone else watching this? Dana Loesch (NRA spokeswoman) was supposed to be there, but it's over halfway through and she still hasn't shown up. Looks like she decided to take the cowardly way out like Rick Scott and Donald Trump.

Edit: Jake Tapper just said she's about to finally appear. This should be good.

But interestingly Marco Rubio is. I am kind of impressed, it has been a while since I have seen a US Senator willing in front of a hostile audience. I pretty much loath Rubio, but at least he has the courage to look these people in the eye and actually attempt to explain his position. Which is frankly a lot more then I expected from him.

I have no idea why Marco Rubio or the NRA decided to go along with this. This town hall is a WWE match.

I caught a small part of it earlier and was wondering where she was, wasn't the NRA promoting her appearance on their bloody site?

The small bit I caught was not kind to Rubio, purple shirt kid wasn't playing by the rules or pulling punches. I like him.

So do we know why she's late?

Rubio impressed me simply by being there. There was no way he was going to come out of this looking good, but this happened in his state, and people wanted him to show up, look them in the eye, and explain his position. He actually did that, which completely took me off guard, because I thought doctors removed his spine last year after determining it was vestigial. If you didn't like Rubio going into this, you won't like him afterwards, but props to him for showing up in that room and actually talking.

A show of faith? Either to prove they're willing to listen, or at least pretend. We'll find out.

I'm with Thekri. I can deal with a person having a different opinion than I do, if they're willing to stand up in good faith and discuss it. Rubio has never been a guy I've agreed with very often, and that isn't likely to change any time soon, but if nobody is willing to talk then nothing will ever get done.

It’s pretend, just like the Deplorables on here. When asked if he would turn away NRA money, in the name of dead kids- he wouldn’t. Guns and money are more important. Dead kids are just a bump in the road.

Man I couldn't last 30 secs. Theres man things that I can say about Dana Loesch and aint none of them nice. To sit up there and tell bold faced lies to those people is sickening. To sit about there spouting whataboutisms and the tired argument that looser gun laws are somehow better than checks and balance is disgusting. It might not be in 10 years and it might not be in 20 but I can't wait for these people are out of the political environment, citing that they are "protecting the 2nd Amendment" so they can profit off gun sales. BS.

was kinda funny to watch Cameron Kasky point blank ask Senator Rubio if he will not take any NRA money from this point forward...

If I was the father speaking (the video I watched on theguardians website, dont know if this and that is same) I would fucking punch them into oblivion. no president no security no politician in that room no representative from nra would be sitting there with a normal face. Punch their faces till my bones are broken. disgusting.

You're right, he does deserve some credit for going into what he knew would be a hostile crowd (unlike the cowardly Rick Scott and the cowardly Donald Trump). You're also right that he didn't come out looking good. I wonder if he had flashbacks to the primary debate where Chris Christie destroyed him.

This is really hard to watch.

The part that's hard is where the argument of gun control is put into the hands of innocent children whose arguments cannot be attacked, by default, without looking like a monster, backed by a roaring crowd for every anti-gun sentiment they express.

This is not good dialogue, you guys.

Really makes you think when your argument is "hard" because it involves dealing with innocent children being killed and facing that makes you wince.

What do you mean their arguments cannot be attacked? You literally had no trouble posting in a thread where Trump jr likes a post, not only commenting on this, but also accusing these children in being actors. If the son of the president of US can join a conversation by liking a conspiracy theory asserting these children are actors, I do not understand why we cannot discuss legitimate reasons.
