He regularly talks up his religious bonafides whenever he's around the "moral majority" folks, he's got a history of questioning Obama's religion with the implication being he's a Muslim (Obama recited the Apostle's Creed without bursting into flames), and it's not much of an ask. He was invited to a funeral service, you play by the rules in the funeral service. Every other living president and I would imagine every other attendee did. Trump didn't.

That matters. If Trump didn't pretend to be a devout Christian this wouldn't be an issue. But he does, so it is.

I just think he failed to meet expectations. It would have been an easy thing to do, out of a kind of respect or reverence for the proceedings, but the fact that he didn't do it isn't really "wrong" but it does mean he made a conscious decision to NOT do those things. It would have been an easy and harmless thing for him to do, and he chose not to do it for whatever reason.

Doing what he did wasn't "wrong" but it certainly isn't putting him in a positive light, IMO.

All those saying this doesn't matter; it isn't about whether he said the creed or not, really. It's about how he portrayed himself, falsely, as a devout Christian to court the Evangelical extremist vote. His behaviour here proves it was a lie. We knew it was, but ta-da, proof.

This is about the hypocrisy and gullibility of the Evangelical voters, who only vote for a candidate if they're "Christian enough", but also only care about lip service, not actual moral values.

Yeah that's a good point. I'm an athiest myself, and I would NEVER EVER say that, under any circumstance, even if I was at a funeral for a religious person. I would draw attention to the fact that I'm not saying it. BUT, I'm not a hypocrite, I never claim to be christian to get benefits. I'm open about being athiest in everything in life. Trump is a hypocrite because he tries to portray himself as extremely religious to get the nut bags to vote for him. That's why I'm not going to praise him for not doing it. If he portrayed himself as an athiest from the beginning, did not say the prayer, and when called out on it said he didn't say it because he's athiest, then I'd praise him for it. But he's not smart or self aware enough to do something like that.

The way I see it, he accidentally the did right thing, because he's stupid and ignorant.
