seeing his age, if it was a very close friend i'd probably ask if it was a statutory thing such as pictures of a girlfriend who was 16 when he was 18 or something, but they'd better have a pretty good explanation.

Personally I wouldn't.

I had a close friend go to jail for armed robbery and I cut ties, we still speak now he's out but he's far from my best friend and we haven't met face to face in nearly a decade.

But that's mostly because I was just so disappointed in him. He had been going off the rails since he was a teen and his mum died, and I'd put Alot of effort into trying to keep him on the straight and narrow, but then he suddenly went awol from his military base, joins a gang, and robs a store for them.

Not giving advice. But he’s your friend. If he’s in prison then the matter legally is resolved he can’t hurt children now so. It really is up to you maybe you can help turn his life around. If not those are the consequences of his actions not yours.

I don't make friends easily, so I have a rather short list of people I consider friends vs acquaintances. Everyone has different limits to what extent you stay friends with someone. Child porn is a deal breaker for me and isn't on the same level to me as petty theft, though if I knew someone who liked to steal, I might rethink inviting them over for dinner.

Firstly we need to figure out what they mean by that. Because "child porn" can be a 17 year old.

Depends on what is considered child porn in your country. Is it below 21? 18? 16? 15? 1-12?
In Poland it's a crime if the other person is under 15 (and some circumstances 18), but generally I wouldn't consider my friend a pedo if he was banging a 17yo and wouldn't have any issues with visiting him. I wouldn't probably if he had pics or photos of like ~16~15. And definately wouldn't if they were even younger.
Also depends if the "porn" was nudes send him willingly by the girl (w/o even asking for it) or some sick porn business shit. For what I've known some weebs got even convicted for hentai bullshit because it was considered child porn in some countries (Canada iirc).

That's pretty messed up, nothing wrong with an 18 and 17 year old hooking up, but I say that from the stand point of living in the UK were the legal age of consent is 16. And as you stated for Poland it's (more often than not, I'm assuming with the "some circumstances 18" part) 15 so it should really be a non issue if both people are consenting.

OP, I don't really know what to tell you. All I can recommend is that if you don't know the full details on what, and how it went down, setting aside the info you provided, I'd say go visit him and try to get more details before deciding what to do after.
