Over the past couple years, I've had one thought... I remember growing up in a time where we nerds were damn happy someone bothered making sci-fi/fantasy films at all, regardless of how good or bad it was.

Now I look out....and I just can't help but feel spoiled. I'm spoiled, gamer/nerd culture is spoiled, the entire industry is spoiled! I've gotten so tired of the constant nit-picking, the politics, the criticism of every-last-detail. I think I've mentally checked out of media reviews and discussions.

I don't know about anyone else, but Captain Marvel looks like it's going to be at least as fun as any other Marvel film. So I'm going to go see it, I'm going to enjoy my time and my popcorn, and then I'm going to go home and not going to overthink it.

I am not on social media I avoid all the drama, so on it's own the movie looks like its going to be fun, but like all other movies I do get anxious that one day they Marvel/Disney are going to do a really bad movie and I hope this isn't it because I really like the Captain Marvel character. Or at least I did, her comics have been pretty shit the last 5 years but who knows.

I always think even the worst Marvel/Disney movie, Thor: The Dark World (yes I do think that is the worst, fite me) was not that bad, just pretty boring and dull but it still had some charm at least. I don;t think we have honestly not a really bad Marvel/Disney movie yet. But I am sure someone will beg to differ :P

Maybe instead of taking everything literally, you should learn to read between the lines. Did she LITERALLY say that she "doesn't want white males to watch her movies"? No, you're right. Was it the ACTUAL message behind her words? Absolutely fucking yes.

Also, funny how whenever women constantly fucking cry about every little thing, real or imaginary, it makes them strong, brave, independent, fighting for what they believe in, yada yada yada. Men do the same? It makes them a bunch of snowflakes, crybabies, whiners, and whatever other buzzwords the leftards can come up with.

What’s the best film to watch to really get a sense of Brie’s acting at her best? The Room? The only thing I’ve ever seen with her in it was Kong Skull Island and I couldn’t help but think she was really phoning it in.

She's pretty good in Scott Pilgrim.

Also seconding Thor:TDW as worst MCU movie, they really went through a rough patch with that, Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron.

I will review these films(Dramas). I don't really like fantasy, although Lord of the Rings is a truly legendary film. I prefer to watch a something about gangsters either with actors like Johnny Depp, Robert De Niro and so on.

Training Day and American Gangster with Denzel Washington were great, so was Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.

Top 5 favorite films? Got to have a genre, there are so many good movies out there and I like a bit of everything but my favorites are action/adventure, science fiction, horror, thrillers and comedies.

My favorite comic book movies ever are The Dark Knight trilogy, Watchmen, Superman: The Movie, Wonder Woman, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-man 2.

Favorite horror movies are The Exorcist (1979), The Omen (Gregory Peck), The Conjuring universe films and original Child's Play.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Trek: Wrath of Khan and Into Darkness (I love the Khan Noonien Singh character), Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (I mostly only care about the fall of the Jedi and Vader's rise), and Rogue One.

Dramas I really love are The Color Purple, The Kite Runner, Lincoln (Daniel Day Lewis), There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, Mississippi Burning, Doubt (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), and The Social Network.

Comedies are too many to name but some of my favorites off the top of my head are Tropic Thunder and Dodgeball.

Those are indeed some good movies not my personal favs for each category but good.

Just want to clarify it's NOT The Room, it's just Room. Those are VERY different films. You should see The Room because it's one of the best worst movies ever made, not to get an assessment of Brie Larson, because she's not in that one. I think she was at least oscar nominated for Room though, might even have won it. I'd guess that's the film to watch.

I enjoyed Thor:TDW I've watched it many times, even Age of Ultron I would rather watch 10x over than Black Panther.

Well, Kong Skull Island = everyone was phoning it in... Why inherently talented, decorated actors would turn up for that blockbuster designed bag of tropes is beyond me.

And I'd assume that the movie which granted her the Oscar would be the best bet, although I've never seen the movie myself and probably never will, so can't say either way. Not particularly a fan but hoping I'll be after Captain Marvel (after the personal disaster that was WW...). It's just called "Room" though, THE Room is... something else.

I mean for example, they can hate on Black Panther and Last Jedi all they want. They can post scathing reviews and try and tank audience scores.

Both those films both made over a billion frickin' dollars. Obviously, their bitching and moaning aren't getting them anywhere.

They should save their breath and turn their attention towards being happier people with more constructive hobbies.

TLJ is responsible for killing the anthology films because the reaction to it caused a freaking han solo movie to tank. Disappointingly so because Solo is a far better movie than it has any right to be and leagues better than TLJ.

This one has Ghostbuster 2016 written all over it after all the actress activism that's been going on.
When you're promoting a movie the last things you'd want to do is belittle one of the core audiences.

I've been seeing lots of reports about this..... but the only thing I can find is that she wanted her press tour to not be "overwhelmingly" male. I don't see a problem with this..... she's not saying she doesn't want males there but she wants an equal amount of women to men. not a bad thing really. but people blow it out of proportion, as they always do, and suddenly she is anti-male instead of pro-equality.

as for Ghostbusters, well that movie was awful. pretty sure Capt Marvel won't be - and it will be a commercial success, whether it is good or not, because it is right in the middle of the Avengers IW hype train. just because Brie Larson said some things that some male fans won't like won't stop that. I mean, hell, those male fans will still go and watch the movie, just maybe not on opening weekend.

Ignoring bullshit politics, anyone just think the movie looks bland? The previews have been awful and I've been completely ignoring press around this movie. I'm a close to a untainted viewer as possible...

I called that this movie was going to flop in the 2019 flop thread... Unfortunately nothing has really changed, I mean what's the selling point here? You'd think marvel would have went all out on a character that is lesser known to casual movie fans. If you look at other lesser known marvel character movies, AntMan, Black Panther, GotG, Marvel went all out in those. The casts are phenomenal, cgi top notch, but jesus... This looks like green lantern.

Looks like a scifi channel b movie from the 90s imo with a bit higher production values but most commercials I've seen just give me that feeling even games like Anthem feel like they have better quality commercials.

It seems every time she opens her mouth they shave $100 million off estimated earnings. They have already changed opening weekend forecast takings from $180 million down to $80 mil. This is shaping up to be another Solo, I'd be surprised if it takes over $500 mil all up. You have to remember Captain Marvel isn't known outside the US, and many non US markets are not that keen on feminist superheros.

And it was just a year ago they were saying it was going to be another Black Panther.

It will be interesting to see how it all turns out, and yes when they shave such a big amount off of opening weekend takings really does show how much possible damage has been caused.. And very true in markets like Japan and China as far as I know they really do detest that sort of thing and it will be interesting to see how well it does over there..
