    Cities: Skylines

    Release date and new trailer!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqQ0fNy0KZU

This was mentioned a lot during the 'Cities XXL' thread. Hopefully this lives up to expectations! (Cities XXL has been trashed in reviews due to very little improvements). Considering there's only around half a dozen people making this, it actually looks great.

Cities: Skylines, the city simulation game for PC, Mac and Linux, will be in the hands of aspiring building magnates and town planners everywhere on March 10th. Starting today, players can also pre-purchase Cities: Skylines and receive in-game items and other content.

Anyone purchasing the game prior to March 10th receives the following:

    - Five additional in-game items (Basketball Court, Botanical Gardens, Merry-go-round, Bouncy Castle, Dog Park), adding fun, style and practicality to any town!
-Digital art book containing building blueprints and other original concept art
    -Four digital postcards

please note, that Cities XXL and Cities: Skylines are made by different developers and are NOT tied to the same franchise or company.

    Fractal Design Define R4 Titanium Grey // Intel i5 4690k // MSI z97 Gaming 3 // Corsair h100i Cooler // Corsair CX750M PSU // EVGA GTX 770 // 8gb (2x4) Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz // WD Black 1tb // Samsung Pro Evo 120gb SSD

I passed on Cities XXL, Skylines is the one I am looking at now. It looks a lot like SimCity 2013. I found the following though.

1 map in SC was 2x2 KM (roughly 3.6x3.6 miles)

This is the same size a one square in CS. The advantage of CS is that (in vanilla) you can unlock up to 9 squares in a single city.

It's been stated that modders have the ability to unlock up to 25 (IIRC) square. Allowing for a total area of 10x10KM.

I'm keeping an eye on it, never tried the Cities games but after Sim City went all small scale I'm up for a change

I really hope this is a great game. With all the simulators on steam these days it's a disgrace that we don't have a good modern city building simulator.

Well it looks nice so far.

Here are some more gameplay aswell.

He were playing on a "relatively old build" tho, so some stuff have already been changed/fixed, like the road thing in the beginning. :3

Yeah, really looking forward to this game after I didn't buy Sim City 5. At $30, it should be a pretty good deal. Hopefully it isn't too buggy on release.

I havent't played a city-building in a long time. It's nice that you have the possibility to make curved roads. What looks really strange though, is buildings not beeing able to adjust to that. Curved roads with nothing but rectangular buildings looks really odd.

Quite looking forward to this one, started playing cities in motion today to get a short sneak peak of what to expect from this.

If anything my issue with this game is that it looks a lot like Sim City 5. Makes me feel like the game doesn't have an identity of its own. I'll admit that I haven't look too much info about it so who knows maybe I'm wrong. I will wait for release and see how things develop.

The reason it looks a lot like sim city 5 is mostly because you just have so many things you can do with a city management game. It will look like the other games very quickly, as you can't really innovate much in a game that is based on real life. And there are options like making a chinese version or placing it in africa, but that's an entirely different market.

I think that the genre of city builders is one of the most difficult markets to really make yourself stand out from the others.

It looks a bit plastic-y compared to previous, more realistic Cities games.

The embargo dropped today so all the streamers are able to show off Cities: Skylines now. Here are a couple of good videos from Quill18 and Sips showing the game play. Looks good enough to me to pre-purchase it. Only $30 US on Steam and lands March 10th.

Looks like a cut and paste old SimCity 4 game. Which I love. I bought SimCity 5 and one of worst games I ever purchased. Played maybe 2hrs total and never played again. For some they may not like that it is a copy of SimCity 4, but to me its what I love. I will probably purchase this just by the play.

Looks promising, but I'll wait until it's been vetted by the community for a few weeks.

Really looking forward to this one.

It's made with Unity and is very beautiful.

There's no way it can be worse than SimCity 2013

Looks good, but what sets it apart from Sim City? It looks pretty identical to me.

This game is not from the Cities series. Different developer and engine.

Did you even look at the infographic? Tons of differences.
