Perfect World Entertainment has today announced that Torchlight Frontiers will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, seeing the dungeon-crawling RPG making a comeback care of Echtra Games, headed up by former Runic Games and Blizzard North co-founder Max Schaefer.
The latest iteration will be a shared-world action-RPG, bringing back many of the features and mechanics the Torchlight series is known for, with Schaefer assembling "an all-star team of developers," according to Perfect World Senior Vice President, Yoon Im. "We continue to be amazed by the sheer level of talent and wealth of experience that they bring to Torchlight Frontiers," says Im. "We’re proud to have Echtra Games as a part of the company.”
Echtra Games CEO Schaefer states that the goal for Torchlight Frontiers is to continue to evolve the series' universe into a shared world, meaning that Torchlight Frontiers "will be a living, breathing universe that will still feel uniquely Torchlight, while we add our own creative spin to the game," he states. "The team is building something truly special, and we can’t wait for fans to play it for the first time at Gamescom and PAX West."
Torchlight Frontiers' shared world promises to be a persistent, dynamically generated one, in which you can team up with friends "and devoted pets" to slice 'n dice your way through ancient ruins, lost civilisations and dark dungeons stuffed with riches, loot and dangerous monsters. No release window has been confirmed for Torchlight Frontiers as yet, but you can check out the announcement trailer below for a teaser.
