If the mortality rate of this is 2% then that is over 1 million dead in Germany alone.

And here in Australia health experts are warning that we are only 5 days away from a tidal wave, given how it is progressing in other parts of the world. We are only a bit over 100 cases here but it only took 5 days for it to go from 100 to out of control in Italy and that is what they are worried about as internal transmission has started here.
Yeah I was reading that the other day, Merkel said it.

Has me laughing about the media/social media response here in the US. Everyone is like "Germany is so on top of the virus! They are testing so many people! They are doing everything right!" while simultaneously doing the orange man bad spiel with "OMG Drumpf is doing everything wrong! The US isn't testing enough! We're doomed!" Yet the outcomes are expected to be basically the same in both countries, epidemiologists here in the US are saying 40%-70% of the population could be infected, tens of millions could be hospitalized, and hundreds of thousands could die (about 10-15 times as bad a bad flu season)... And Merkel is saying the same thing, up to 70% of Germans could be infected, similar rates of hospitalizations, similar rates of potential deaths.

If one country (Germany) is responding by supposedly doing everything right and the other country (USA) is responding by supposedly doing everything wrong and both of them are expected to have identical outcomes, it would seem the response is irrelevant, containment isn't happening regardless, and we just have to weather it either way. Which makes the blame game going on hilarious... Especially since the powers that be (especially the WHO) are trying to give the party actually to blame (old Chinese people who insist on having wet markets filled with exotic animals and zero sanitation) a free pass and calling any criticism aimed in that direction bigotry.

Why was Trump choking on his words so badly? He sounded struck with fear at times. I have to mention it.

Maybe its something that he knows he cant handle, and if this keeps spiraling it could effect his re-election?

This has been mishandled so very badly so far, including classifying coronavirus meetings.

Good luck trying to enforce that one.
All of the west appears to be following the same trajectory. We can slow it via containment measures but not stop it completely. The problem is what happens when those get lifted?

I'm sort of wondering if he's forcing himself to care about the speech. He's in his element free wheeling, I don't think he does these serious on-message deliveries very well.

Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

I'm pretty bothered he wanted to blame EU for all of this though. Like, that is not only unhelpful, but also just plain wrong.

I keep saying it, the damn thing has been transmitted since the late summer. A lot of us already had it and had no idea.

If we lose Tom Hanks to this, we do not deserve to continue. Period...

He should be blaming China because those miserable shits tried to sweep the whole thing under the rug, here we are 3 months later and shit is literally starting to hit the fan.

In China's case, unless they completely isolate from the rest of the world, it will come back. The trick is to slow the spread until you can either create a vaccine or your health care system can manage. Hopefully the summer will help to slow the spread too.

There are alot of aging actors at risk from this. I mean Patrick Stewart is almost 80, Ian Mckellen is over 80, we could lose both of them to this thing.

I'm still not ready to accept that we're doing this, that this is a major thing what famous person could die? Like, it's hard to accept that we can't handle this like every single one of the others.
