Exclamation Can't post on the official forums without an active sub?

    Topic.

"To post in the WoW forums, you must be logged in with your Blizzard account and choose a character to post as in the top right corner of the page. You can only choose active characters on your account that are level 10 or above, excluding class trial characters.

If one of your characters is missing, it may be due to inactivity. Log the character in to the game, then try again after a few minutes.

Your account must also have an active subscription (or game time) and must belong to the same region where you are posting"

Has this always been the case? It's retarded to say the least. Personally been playing on/off since 2005 on the same account. Last online was december 2019, because of quarantine i'm considering resubscribing now since i'm bored af staying home 24-7. I figured i'd check the forums first and read up on some updates. I actually found multiple threads where users had issues that I could resolve, where I had the answer, but because i'm not paying, i'm unable to help them Activision-Blizzards greed is actually costing them. I can't remember this being the case, but then again the official forums have been pretty shitty so I've mostly avoided them and stayed here instead, so it might be its been like this for a long time?

It has always been like this on WoW forums. Possible exception being Alpha and Beta Forums where you could post if you had testing access even if your retail sub had lapsed.

well if you were going to re-subscribe anyway then do it, then you can answer them? as for why they do it, well I believe you have the answer right here on these forums. I reckon a solid percentage of people who complain and whine about the state of the game have either never had a sub (they just like complaining) or haven't had one in a while and are probably never coming back

Because MMO-Champion would be deserted within a week because all of the moaners and whiners would flock to the WoW forums

It's been like that for as long as I can remember. In fact, I can not remember a time when I could post on the official forums without an active sub.

Because all the moaners who quit wow back in WotLK would come and start posting crap about the game which is so horrible and bad telling how glad they and their grandmas are about not playing it now.

You can post on the EVE Online forums without a sub. All you need to do is create a character.

Yes it has, and it's perfectly fine this way.

    And this is 100% true.

Cool. Then there's no issue. We can stop wasting time and go on with our lives.

No! I'm dying to know what this all important question is, everything has been put on hold till I know!

All games with a sub do this. It is the perfect way to keep those fools out that have left the game years ago and just stick on forums to express how every class was broken after Cata, that people playing today are just "Blizzard fanbois" and the game has less then 1000 subs by now. Incidentaly that makes up about 60% of this forums population.

It also neatly keeps the spambots and troll accounts at bay that try to sell us a keto diet every second day over here

To be honest the new forum is so buggy I was able to post for about two months after my sub had lapsed I don't know if it improved or not since then it was before classic release.

I wish we could stop having all these thinly veiled "Activision-Blizzard hate threads".

Yes, it has always been that way, and, to my knowledge, it's been like that with all official game forums for games with active subscriptions, not just WoW's. Because posting on the forums, as stated by Blizzard, is a privilege for the ones with a standing subscription.

It's also an efficient way of curbing spammers and bots.

This is actually one of the good things that companies with toxic communities do. Riot used to, not sure if they still do, have a requirement of having gotten to a certain level or played a certain amount of games to post on their forums. If you think the official forums are bad now can you imagine if every seething ex-subscriber with a chip on their shoulder and nothing else fulfilling them could post their rant threads?

It's irrelevant really, the devs and CM are more on Reddit than they are their own official forums, and anyone can post there.

Yes it's always been that way. In fact back in the day in order to actually create an account didn't you need to own the game and pay for a sub before you could even finish making one and when the 14 day trial first came out you needed a CC number to finalise account creation?
