They can't really control what becomes of Trumpism, other than to allow the DoJ to investigate, expose, and prosecute Trump and his collaborators for any wrongdoing they can. They really can't allow shit like what happened yesterday in PA, it sets too dangerous a precedent and absolutely cannot become the norm. That said, they really need to let the DoJ handle that and focus on more immediate concerns like vaccine distribution and economic relief.

Their best weapon against Republicans is to pass legislation and make appointments, unilaterally if necessary, that will benefit the poor and working class. Starting with that $2k stimulus check would be an easy first win that hits people where they feel it. A $15 minimum wage increase would be another easy victory that people will remember, along with college debt forgiveness and so forth.

At this point they might even be able to push for election reform, though that strikes me as a risky proposition right now. As disenchanted as Trump's base is with the election process, I can easily imagine shrewd politicians like McConnell and Cruz framing any potential reforms as a socialist conspiracy to take away their representation, which could actually galvanize the Republican party going into 2022.

Perhaps most importantly, they need to be more shrewd themselves. Take credit for any wins and reject Republican narratives. They need to be more proactive and aggressive. They need to control the story. They should absolutely frame Republicans as out-of-touch obstructionists who hate the working class. These are things within their power to do.

The last time Democrats controlled all 3 branches, the ACA got passed, along with many other more minor bills that people never acknowledged.
