Red face Info Wars Filed For Bankruptcy

Sorry that Justice took so long to catch up with a hate speech and conspiracy monger like Alex Jones. Also a total fluke in this case, since Monsieur Jones was not competent enough to hire decent lawyers or even show up in court.

Alex Jones' InfoWars website has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Southern District of Texas as the company and its founder face defamation lawsuits related to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Three companies affiliated with the far-right broadcaster and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, among them the media outlet Infowars, filed for Chapter 11 protection on Sunday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, according to court documents.

Infowars is facing multiple defamation lawsuits from families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting, which Mr. Jones has claimed was a hoax. Two other companies connected to Mr. Jones, IWHealth and Prison Planet TV, also filed for bankruptcy protection on Sunday.

Last September, Mr. Jones lost two defamation lawsuits filed in Texas by victims’ families because he failed to provide requested information to the court. Months later, in a case representing the families of eight others killed in the shooting, a Connecticut judge ruled that Mr. Jones was liable by default because he had refused to turn over documents ordered by the courts, including financial records. The rulings delivered sweeping victories to the families.

Mr. Jones for years spread bogus theories that the shooting that killed 20 first graders and six educators in Newtown, Conn., was part of a government-led plot to confiscate Americans’ firearms and that the victims’ families were actors in the scheme.

Because of the falsehoods, families of the victims have found themselves routinely accosted by those who believe those false claims. Among those are the parents of Noah Pozner, who have moved nearly 10 times since the shooting, and live in hiding.

The Sandy Hook families maintain that Mr. Jones profited from spreading lies about their relatives’ murders. Mr. Jones has disputed that, while for years failing to produce sufficient records to bolster his claims.

On its face, this is good news. I strongly suspect Alex Jones is following his Orange God and declaring bankruptcy on his business to attempt to avoid paying any of his own money. I also suspect it won't work.

Now surely @cubby will weigh in with actual expert info, but until then, what we all know about bankruptcy is that you don't do it on a whim. Jones made an offer, it was called a lowball and refused, then he did this -- most likely because he believes a fair and honest damages finding will be more than he wants to pay. As we also all know, bankruptcy isn't an everything-proof shield. It means you give up control of everything in your business, and let someone the judge picks for you hand out what you have to the people they think deserve it the most, while you sit around and watch. If the only way to resolve the matter is to sell off all your worldly goods from under you, the bankruptcy overseer can do exactly that, while your complaints are directed to a brick wall.

Now, Jones claimed in court he was worth $50,000 and owes millions, to make this bankruptcy happen. I...think there's a good chance he's lying. Yes I know, lying in court documents is a fucking stupid idea. But considering there's been no findings of damages yet (the offer was made March 22) those liabilities shouldn't include those damages? I think?

I could be wrong, easily. Jones could be giving up and crying into his single scoop of ice cream, knowing for a fact he's lost and will pay out more than the 13x$120,000 that was already refused, with no realistic chance of appeal. I don't think that's how it works...but I'm not a lawyer.

If I'm right, that means he was already seven or eight figures in the hole. Yes, legal fees could do that, but then we get into "why would anyone defend Alex Jones for money he didn't have?" And of course, we've all heard of Infowars. We know it exists. That means he should be getting decent revenue. But he's claiming to have $0 to $50,000 in assets. I have more than that, and I'm a public school teacher.

And also, if I'm right, the question is then raised "why didn't he say something before?" Which is why I'm suspicious. If Jones was really digging his way out of a hole, saying "Your Honor I can't pay anything at all" should have been brought up at least November. He didn't, so either the bankruptcy is based on assumed heavy damage payments, or he's desperate and willing to take bankruptcy over the judgement, and lying to make that happen.

So let's talk about Alex Jones.

    He's fucked.

Considering he made hundreds of millions with his scams, bankruptcy means fuck all. His pill selling company might not be inforwars itself, which is where his money comes from. And he would only be bankrupting the "news" company.

Oh no, I hope his supplement company isn't a part of Info Wars. How else will I get my Brain Force and other health supplements (that include soy) to prove to the world I'm not a soyboy?!

    Per the NYTimes:

In its court filings, Infowars said that it had up to 49 creditors, as much as $50,000 in estimated assets and up to $10 million in estimated liabilities. The two other companies said they also had up to 49 creditors, with IWHealth stating it had up to $1 million in assets while Prison Planet TV said it had up to $50,000.
I guess the IWHealth is the part @Edge- was asking about?

Wait till they catch his money swapping ass moving all those assets around to avoid bankruptcy payments. He thinks he is smarter than the bankruptcy people who have been doing this for decades.

There is a fraction of the population, the Lawful Evil fraction, that doesn't commit crimes because of fear of being caught. I'm not really of the temperment to murder anyone, but even if I was, I'd be thinking "am I good enough to hide every speck of evidence?" I don't think I would be. And I'm pretty sure I'm smarter than Alex Jones.

They are trying to get out of the money they are about to lose, and I hope the fucking judge doesn't stop them.

I think you're supposed to be heat lamping your scrotum for that instead now per T. Carlson F.P.
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.

Jokes on them, I've been sunning my butthole (and testes) since suntanning your butthole was the cool thing for middle class white people to do.

Man its so easy for rich people to file for bankruptcy after being terrible people, but if you take on debt as an 18-year-old trying to get an education that's your ass.

I don't think theres a lot of truly bad people in the world. A lot of people who make terrible choices but not bad people. Alex Jones is 100% a bad person.

I've seen enough stories about religious con-men and grifters who come back as if nothing happened after getting into legal trouble. So I'm not holding my breath that Jones will fade into his well-deserved obscurity any time soon.
