Hunters just became the master DPS class.
Hope not, that would throw elemental PvP back into the dark ages.
Removing Elemental's ability to cast lightning bolt while on the move leaves them with 5 abilities to use on the move- Flame Shock, Earth Shock, Frost Shock, Unleash Elements, and proc Lava Burst. You generally DON'T want to refresh Flame Shock early (Although next expansion that will be acceptable if you can't cast lightning bolt on hte move), you DONT want to cast earth shock while moving, and insta-lava burst is RNG and used asap. So that really only leaves frost shock and unleash elements as "reliable" on-the-move dps options. Frost shock puts the other shocks on a 6 second CD unless glyphed, so you should only use Frost Shock sometimes, leaving unleash elements, which is crap damage without the talent, but better then nothing.
Now, assuming that blizzard nerfs movement across the board to the point that all you can cast are instants..,
Warlocks, Fel Flame, ability to refresh most DoTs, demo will have access to demon form. Will loose very little dps while moving except as destro.
Mages are almost in the same boat- ice lance/fire blast outside of procs/specs does about the same amount of damage as unleash elements. Arcane Barrage can mess with the rotation. Frost/Fire has access to a number of instant-cast procs
Priests, same boat. 1 dot refresh and procs, plus T90 talent.
Boomkins can refresh dots while moving and have access to procs. Plus, they can place shrooms down for not-as-much-as-a-loss type move.
Blizz has already said that hunters will be balanced around being "mobile", and snipe will be the "stand-still" hunter.
Eh. IMO, moving is overrated. Blizzard should just allow EVERYONE to move while casting some spells, make spells take .5-1 second longer to cast if you have to move while casting it, and balance around that.
You obviously know what will happen, lighting bolt on the move will become a talent.
Which they should do for all classes but hunter, reason I mention hunters is because their filler is slower and does no dmg.
If they nerf lightning bolt so you can't cast it when moving without doing similar to other classes, than it would really hurt ele. But they said that shadow priests are about what they want other casters to be like in terms of movement. A couple spells that they can cast while moving, but not many. Plus ele has SG still. Also, if they balence fights around this limited movement, then the problems that it causes won't be so great.
Would be fine if Lightning Bolt didn't hit like a wet noodle.
Stay salty my friends.
Took them years to badly balance elem. Clearly they wanna do a start over ;-) maybe it's all for the better... Starting from a clean slate....
yep, it's apparntly too overpowered for elemental shamans, but it's a nice "niche" for hunters.
Jokes aside, I think it's reasonable in the sense of it becoming a thing for every single class starts taking away the whole feel of casting something powerful, but it would put those classes that doesn't have any sort of instant cast spells at all in a very awkward spot in comparastion to, in this case, elemental. So unless they plan to change the way our shock spells work, which I truely hope they do, we we'd be at a pretty big disadvantage to this nerf.
Even if they do remove lightning bolt while moving they'll just buff it so you still cast it standing still. It's not that big of a deal really for pvp. If you are good you can still get gladiator just like everyone else did before the change to let you cast it while moving. I'm failing to grasp the problem here outside of just crying in general because blizzard is changing something.

Never once said hunters were casters, but they are a ranged dps that don't suffer from being a ranged dps. I feel like if they are going to take away damage on the move abilities that it should effect all ranged dps not just "casters". I have seen Legolas have to sit still and aim before, and all shows require some aiming and standing still to get off an accurate shot, so unless you're a thug with his gun turned sideways in order to get an accurate shot off you have to stand still and aim.
Clearly shows how little you know about the game right now, if they don't remove it from other casters and give ele a decent instant cast then it will kill us in PVP. Back before we could cast while moving in Season 9 Ele was complete garbage along with T11 raiding. In Season 8 Ele was finally pretty strong due to Lava Burst hitting really hard. But losing LB while casting will be a major hit to Ele PVP
Yes, until melee get insta-gibbed on Pagarons because of the cone attacks. Or breaking from Sha to get prisons, or doing no DPS because they have to kill adds. Sorry, this might be a true story, but it just sounds like your friend is a bad player. I play as ranged and melee, and while the mechanics are DIFFERENT, they're still there. I mean, he didn't know about engineers on Garrosh? That's pretty ignorant...
