and Everquest canceled the sequel altogether... so I guess "doing it just fine" is up for debate.

Yea, so far the main examples of 'successful' legacy servers are ones that are dead in the MMO world. Not saying it can't be done, just that so far past experiences that are held up as 'See it works!' are games older than a good few players are.

Everquest seems to be doing it just fine. So does all the other games doing it currently, like RO, Runescape.

The code for everquest now and everquest 17 years ago is likey the same. They build onto the code where unlike Wow the code is mutated.

Also as for Runescape they literary re-released RS2007 and thats why when you go to play it you start with nothing.

Just because X group can do it does not mean Blizzard can. People need to just accept the fact they said no.

Hell they don't even own the servers anymore they sold those off.

Everquest 2 still exists and does progression servers also. Everquest next canceled due to the same reason that Titan is claimed to be canceled. They were doing new and innovative things, but it just wasn't fun.

Dead is clearly an understatement when the game is still going and expansions are announced and the last response to the game was they look forward to the Future of Everquest. Clearly dead game.

It took me a while to finish watching the video. It felt kind of cringey, and condescending to designers, developers and fans of the live game.

I also wonder what Kern's intentions are. From all I read, from his role at Blizzard to his catastrophic failures at Red5, to his odd ties to gamergate to a single video and sorta-dead link for his current company, I'm not sure if pro-legacy folk want this guy as the face of the revolution.

This Trump-laced video reads like Mark Kern is out for one thing, and that's Mark Kern.

Because reusing a slogan has never been done before. "HURR DURR TRUMP IS HITLER HURR MAKING JOKES IS LIKE HOLOCAUST!"
Also, the only gain Mark would gain from this would be attention, unless he plans on leaving retirement, which I highly doubt.

The code is no where near the same. Everquest actually completely redid their engine in an era that this would be more expensive than it is now and with a player base the size of what would probably be on the classic servers. They also claimed the original game didn't exist and every time a new progression server comes around it is more like the actual era the expansion comes out in.

Yea, to say the signatures/papers were fake was pulling straws for people. Don't care if you don't support legacy servers or not, trying to pull that kind of accusation is silly.

Even still how Daybreak handled EQ and how Blizzard handles Wow/Battlenet is two different things. Once again just because X does it does not mean Y can.

Then you have to factor in cost and blizzard clearly thinks it isn't worth it. Don't like the current product stop playing, But accept there answer and move on. Blizzard is not going to make progression servers.

That will open pandora's box anyway. You get classis,next guy wants TBC and another wants wrath or cata. Wow has moved past that point and its best you do as well.

Some people grasp at straws to convince themselves WoW is the best it has ever been. Happens in many other situations too. If you don't want legacy servers, that's fine, but why ruin it for the people who want them? If they fail they'll fail. Blizzard won't have to invest but a tiny margin of their profits for a very pro-costumer act that may or may not prove fruitful.

A lot of people go with the masses and the loudest yelling group, but when it comes time to realize that they no longer get to play WoW for free, and that Blizzard is involved again, we'll see how much people still support it. If those poles were actually worthwhile data, it would mean they would have to have as many Legion servers as Pristine servers, because -clearly- more people want Pristine servers.. right?

People shouldn't be bashed for having the opinion that they want vanilla servers, but they also shouldn't be in the forums posting day in and day out about how bad current wow is and why if you like it you're bad.
