Grocery store I work at does that with all short-dated food each day. Some days you would not fkng believe how much we donate.

That is incredible! I love hearing things like this. We waste so much food in the U.S., that it should be a crime against humanity to not donate what is still salvageable.

Yea I'm not a fan of that ruling. If they want to keep people from starving, government and charities should be the ones fronting the bill; not the private businesses. Allocate funds for soup kitchens or create incentives for stores to host charity funds so customers can donate at the register.

I'm fairly certain nobody will be starving to death on the street, but you're trying to pretend that starvation doesn't lead to a whole host of other health problems which I am fairly certain HAVE been the recorded cause of death. Apparently its now legal to steal in In Italy if you are hungry according to their courts. Instead of throwing criminals in jail, they are just going to encourage more people to steal. Hell, why should I pay for food if everyone else doesnt. Just say you are hungry and take all you want for free. Nevermind that you are screwing the markets who wont be compensated for their losses. I hope they all close down in protest!!

I don't think businesses are obligated to give out free meals just because someone is hungry, I'm amazed people think this is a good ruling. Taking food from a business without paying is stealing, no way to get around that. Let the person eat free meals in jail for a few days, hopefully they can find out about homeless shelters and soup kitchens in that time. It's a sad situation, but by not protecting the businesses, the government is only making the issue worse.

Socialism for some reason appears to be the scapegoat for many things. However to blame socialism for the current state of affairs in Italy we would have to ignore the corruption, the mafia which played a big part especially in local politics so again corruption, the south which has always been poorer and less industrialized then the north and so forth, there are many factors in play here, merely stating socialism had something to do with it is a major oversimplification and also incorrect.

Also every major country is in debt however Italy still has a large economy.
