Are Overwatch ads appropriate on the WoW launcher?

Do you feel that it's appropriate for Blizzard to spam the WoW section of the launcher with Overwatch ads (and vice versa)?

Of course they are free to do what they want, but I feel that the WoW section of the launcher should be reserved exclusively for WoW news updates and promotions. The Overwatch ads can hide any potential WoW updates that Blizzard may be trying to communicate, and can also confuse players. It also makes Blizzard look desperate for sales, and detracts from the general theme of the WoW section of the launcher. If it is not allowed to be discussed on the WoW section on the forums, then it shouldn't be posted on the WoW section of the launcher.

We already get Overwatch spam on the forums and by emails. And besides, if players would like to see any news regarding Overwatch, they are always 1 click away from the Overwatch button.

So are Overwatch ads in the WoW section of the launcher perfectly acceptable business practices? Or should they be removed?

it's not like it is targeted adverts for Viagra.

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable for a company to advertise one of their products on the Launcher of another one of their products.

    1. it's hardly spam, stop misusing that word.

    2. god forbid they advertise their own game to people that play one of their other games.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

The answer to your question is yes, they are appropriate.

Important updates are always the first tile seen in the appropriate games tab with promotional stuff following. In the absence of said updates, it's not only reasonable but expected that they would use their launcher for self-promotion.

Just click 'Play' and move on please.

It may as well be with that half naked man across the launcher.

They add new info for every game to the launcher of every other game, why is OW singled out exactly? This is a non-issue.

Not only that but they have been advertising Overwatch on their launcher for the past 12 months on and off and only now OP claims it's a problem... obviously its Genji envy lol

Let's think about this... They need to sell ads to fund the site. Advertisers like to target audiences who might be interested in their product. The people who visit MMO-C are demonstrating interest in Blizzard-created video games.

Sounds pretty rational to me. What would you prefer they advertise? Diapers?

"I Am Vengeance. I Am The Night. I Am Felfáádaern!"

    Yes they're acceptable.

Maybe they should just have a "General Blizzard news" as front page instead of the last game you played, but personally I'd find that more annoying than having general blizzard news in my WoW tab.

It's really not desperate for sales, it's just basicly not being dumb. Why would they not do it? It's free advertising, arguably that's the whole idea behind the battle.net launcher: Every time you run a Blizzard game you get updated on all Blizzard games. Just like steam shows you news of games you've never seen or genres you've never touched, and even builds a list of games you might want to check out.

In the end those are advertisement/highlight spaces, not really by definition spaces for news of the selected game. For that you go on the News section and select the game you want news on.

God forbid when they eventually spread Warcraft movie advertisement all over the launcher in the next few weeks.

I don't see any issues with it. It's not like they have any WoW updates to put there anyways.

Blizzard promoting its own products on its own platform? No, I don't have a problem with that.
