I hope we see ogres as part of the Horde in possible sequels too. Unfortunately there's nothing pointing to their appearance in this first movie (?), but I think they should be part of the Horde when they first cross over to Azeroth (e.g. Cho'gall leading the first attack on Stormwind: wow.gamepedia.com/Cho%27gall#First_and_Second_War)

The joys of phone typing. You learn to live with it.

It will be a while. There is actually a lot that goes into it. ROI being one of the biggest factors. If we take a rough guess and the movie plus marketing cost 200M. This movie would have to make well over 400 million to ever get in"sequel" (Maybe he's happy now) range discussion. It might actually have to make more depending on reception in some places because rarely does a second movie do as good as the first so thats a hurdle as well.

It's all in the numbers. Hell, Some movies seem to do well like Prince of Persia but there wont be a part 2 to that ever. Maybe a redo but it's ROI was not good. Same goes for many movies. They don't go in the red but there not good enough for a part 2.

What is considered financial success ?
If a movie ahs to make double its budget then Prince of Persia didnt do very well, and addint eh poor critical score you have 2 major reasons for no sequel.

We used to consider it double the money spent but these days that percent seems to need to be larger. Were seeing it needing to be as much as 3.5X it's spending cost to be considered profitable. You can look up entertainment industry economics and get a good example of some things.

While most of it is in the numbers, perception is a big factor as well and then you have smaller things distribution to boot. Like I said, most second movies don't do as well anyway and if there are any other red flags it's gets harder and harder to pass a sequel off for production. Things like perception and interest.

Lets say the movie just does decent. Makes 400M or so. There could still be a sequel if blizzard decided to throw money into it themselves without all the backing coming from studios. Thats happened in the past to get movies made. It's doesn't always work out but sometimes. So there could be hope even if warcraft turns out mediocre in profit.

BTW did anyone notice the high elf in frame from the ILM video.

Looks like they toned down the glow that was in the first few trailers.

Or this is even older footage

I think that even the publisher not making a good marketing, the movie will be a success because of mouth to mouth, and the positive reviews.
The quality of what we have seen so far is awesome, the passion of the folks involved and all the technology used.
It's rare to see a movie where the actors give so much to the project like Rob and the other actors did.
And people complaining about changes, it's a movie, the game will continue to exist in the same way, things that work on games not always works on the big screen .
(awesome to have one of the actors here with us and a fellow player , know that he will never tell his nickname, but it's awesome the same way )

I'm not sure how much money do the other producers want back, but Blizzard could be willing to lose some money if that means launching a popular movie franchise. So it may not be as much about box office as critical acclaim and recognition. After all, every subscriber they get from the movie is worth several tickets.

Well, high elves do have a softer glow than blood elves in WoW. It's night elves who have freaking flashlights in their eyes.

Hell, trim out some of the orc baby crap and get a bit more interesting things in there to show how orcs are before they came through the portal and just what happened to them with demons. that sets teh tone for damn near all their race. I find that a whole lot more interesting than anything with the whole baby scenes.
Yeah, clearly they should have run the story by you first.

This a movie that is supposed to reach viewers that don't know the lore. If they made it solely to cater to gamers, it wouldn't earn what it cost to make it. Presenting Thrall, whom they will build on in the sequels is sound IMO.

Would have loved to have added my input.

I find it hard to tell Warcraft: The beginning and not have what happened to the orcs in the beginning and set them on their path of destruction as well as redemption. As if that wouldn't reach viewers and them know what was going on - In the beginning.

I want a special reward for people who watch the movie on the first day: The lionsheart inn from the movie as a exclusive garrison skin for the Inn building!

So, anyone else think we might me getting the final trailer today? The 2nd trailer was released exactly four weeks ago on a tuesday and now seems like a good time to put out the final trailer seeing as there's just over a week left until the movies premiere.

It's impossible to know how much it needs to make to make a profit non the less be a financial success, but if it makes $700mil+ we will definitely get a sequel.

So in basically 2 months we will know if we will get a sequel

I think we'll probably see ogres if we get any sequels. After all, Duncan was wearing
a hat with an ogre's horn in a recent Periscope he did.

They're visually interesting, they were just too similar to the orcs for the first movie. Once the general audience is comfortable with the orcs, I'm sure they'll introduce several other races.
