It's not a gap between expansions, it's a gap between raid tiers. Also a surprisingly low amount of people cleared HFC on Mythic difficulty before the pre-patch, so saying it's completely devoid of content is being a bit disingenuous. This is a recurring theme late into xpacs in WoW though, not really sure why everyone expects it to be any different- Blizzard is absolutely shit at pacing content. In the beginning it's a raid you have 10 weeks to clear before the next raid opens (which in turn completely obsoletes the first raid) which you have 20 or so weeks to clear before the 3rd raid, which you have for 12-15 months.

Slipmat, RIFT Nightmare tide didn't really do much better than WoD with patches.

Starfall looks good, but it doesnt really compare to legion in terms of launch content

And thats fine, the fact is rift is getting an expansion which means it is not "Dead" as some people has said. I don't understand why wow players HAVE to hate on other mmos, its toxic as hell.

Haven't touched wow in a year. I just don't like the practices that Trion do with Rift. It is a good game don't get me wrong. Class and dungeon design is actually quite good but the cash grabbing is ridiculous. Also WoD was just as fucking awful. 1 content patch is a joke for any game such as an MMORPG.

I will say though (as I am often portrayed as a cheerleader of doom) that the concept of the expansion is very promising.

Personal loot, LFR, better focus on hybrid builds all sound well really nice.

The kicker is Trions track record. Yea the expansion cost $40 "no tricks" until they pull a Black Desert? How do you trust them?

I received a day one ORAS demo code. I am a chosen one.

But OMG YOU READ IT ALL WRONG! (Sorry slipmat, just said what you keep repeating)

It's pathetic how people keep defending that shit. "Here, buy raid gear in the shop!" "Hey, want to raid? Buy the option to actually equip an item in the shop!"

And the Rift Defenders cheer and applaud because those ideas are the best things since sliced bread. After they whine that WoW died because of the cash shop ofcourse.

Rift is currently divided into 2 camps

the people who pay, who feel far superior to anyone who plays F2P (See Exhibit#1, Slipmat)

The people who play F2P, and get driven away by the condescension of the first group.

The first group whines the game is dying, and refuses to see that they are a part of the cause.

Like i said, you don't get everything at launch, it might appeal to some people, get everything an Expansion is going to have in the first, say, month, then they can work on getting through it.

Or they can dish out content spread across every 3 months or whatever, so far since Nightmare Tide launched in October 2014 Rift has had seven big content updates and also their weekly hotfixes can and do add in new content inbetween the big 3.X updates.

Examples: Update 3.1 , January 2015 added a new zone, a new Chronicle, 3 new zone events, craploads of class updates etc etc

Update 3.2 - "new" T2 raid added, even if it was a return to Hammerknell Instant Adventures changed to randomly ported around all zones that hosted them, huige update to wardrobe, everything you unlocked is now available to wear and no need to keep the item, dump it. new Nightmare Rift tier, new Onslaught events added....

I could go on and on, like i said that's seven meaty updates to Nightmare Tide so far, all content nicely spread out 3-4 months apart so there's something 'fresh' to do.

Nope i never, ever said that about a F2P player..what i did say was regarding the person who plays F2P but cries about not having items the people who support the game by buying a bit here and there or pays Patron have but they themselves have no intention of ever, ever spending a cent on anything, has no intention of supporting the game whatsoever but still demands everything. That is the type of player i have an issue with, "gimme it all and gimme it for free!"

But you do realise that these types of players, even though they don't pay money to Trion, do still provide content for other players who do? Without those "entitled masses" you're complaining about, Rift has no future as an MMO. But since you're not going to listen to us about the matter, instead maybe you'll listen to game designer James Portnow of Extra Credits explain it instead. Please watch it, its very enlightening.

Done? Okay. Rift, originally, fell into the first Catagory they were talking about, games where spending money removes a lot of the challenges around getting yourself geared up to do the content. Naturally that lead to a small number of people actually paying, it was in their best interests NOT to.

So they shifted to the second model, trying to force players to pay up if they wanted to tackle the games challenges. While it may have made Trion some cash in the short term, all it left the players with was buyers remorse. They've been slowly forcing players out of the game since January with bad monetisation methods. With 4.0, they're keeping the horrible monetisation and are going to split their player base into paying customers and none paying ones. Theres a serious risk of Rift just not having a sustainable population at level 70, and players who are heavilly invested like yourself Slipmat should be far more concerned than those players who just want things for free.

And that's my issue too, no matter how much they try, their past pocket fondling antics have done nothing but earn them distrust from many, I like the sound of paying 40 bucks for an "all in" expansion but I'd be concerned that 6 months down the line they would probably try to squeeze me for even more with their usual cash grabs.

That's beside the the fact that from my personal point of view, as a raider, the game is pretty much on suicide watch for want of better words and I would sooner support a game/company which is more consistent and deserving of my money than an amateurish and mediocre company like Trion.

Firstly learn to use emoticons. Nobody here is saying we want a f2p game for free with no microtransactions. We are saying we don't want stupid shit gated behind a paywall.

This just in. In about 4 hours, Trion Mods return to work.

Judging by two threads in particular with Patrons and F2P'ers arguing, I expect much banning and trimming of threads occur this morning.

They could start by giving away the earring slot for free and giving people who bought it some kind of compensation (like rex or something) but that'll never happen cause think of the profits :l

Every P2W have fanboys. Some people just like throwing money at their screen to become more powerfull than play the game.
They also need to defend their game a lot or they will be nobody to play, and nobody to be amazed by how powefull they are. They put so much money in it, they just can't see reality anymore.

You see this behavior in prety much every dying mmo turning into pathetic P2W. Being rift, archage or BDO.

Good news for the "concerned" players out there that Rift is continuing to gate gear behind a paywall:

The option to purchased Earring Slots and Planewalker: Water for Voidstones has returned. Both can be purchased for 50,000 Voidstones each.

The time limit to purchase the RIFT: Essentials Edition has been removed. It can be found in the RIFT Store under the DLC category.
