"I would let Anduin ravish me." - aiko
He was disenchanted no way hes gonna be anything then dust
Im pretty sure what my eyes saw was him being torn apart and ashes.. but hey I could be wrong it happened before

Im trying to explain that it cant be more graphic than that about someone turning to dust... but ppl wont listen
It's definitely possible,
Varrian is too big of a character to just kill off like that, sure his death was an epic one, but being this early in the story it feels unresolved. That explosion we saw could be a red herring for a possible return during the final tier of legion. We saw Vol'jin die and hand the Horde to Sylvanas, something we did NOT see in the Alliance cinematics, but Varrian's "death" was in both and the fact that the cinematic cuts away at the last second implies it was foreshadowing.
Is he the final boss? No, that goes to the Avatar of Sargeras, but Varrian will have an important role to play in that tier either as a corrupted raid boss fighting with the legion or an unfortunate slave of the legion that was deformed by their corruption.
Anduin is king now, and he will stay that way. During legion we will see Anduin grow as a character as the new leader of the Alliance. Potentially we will see really emotional payoff at the end.

I don't like Varian dying was one of my fabourites. But he's dead, Vol'jin too no shananigans except maybe a spirit we talk to for a moment.
Okey admittingly Varian is a warrior and we have Valhalla...........hallo why isn't he there?!?!?
Because people are looking at storytelling tropes. His death feels sudden, out of place for that important of a character to die this early in the story, and it smacks of foreshadowing. Varrian will not be the first person to be "brought back" in Warcraft and he won't be the last if makes a surprise appearance in the last tier.

We see fel energy explode outward, WoW isn't going to show the gory details of explosions even if this were for keepsies. That said I feel they'd do more if this was all she wrote, the life leaving his eyes, flashbacks, things like that. This could all be denial on our parts, but on the other hand it would be a cool twist. One they'd have put good deal of effort in after the beloved if last minute "jailer of the damned" ending. But that might be me further hoping we'll get to see Anduin and the New Lich King interact or really just anything with *spoiler* person in it. A for effort if this is a twist, if not I would like more of a send off somewhere down the line. But that's just me.
The way Varrian went out was perfect. If they bring him back it would be a bad idea and take away from such an emotional moment.
By ash do you mean the cloud that explodes outward from either Varian or what's left of Varian? Cause I totally agree they couldn't have gone more graphic, this is a "family" game. However we don't see his body "loose structural integrity". I've seen a lot of animated deaths. There's the "it's just a robot we can rip it's spine out" kind, there's the "fade into sparkles kind", there the "so long as we don't show viscera we're safe" kind, there's the "blood doesn't exist in this universe" kind. There are lots of ways to do it more definitively yet they cut before showing a pile of ash or what have you. I think Blizz wants us speculating. Also this is fun! It's one part hopefulness one part genre savyness on my part.
Also Anyone else think Fel-tainted Varian sounds badass?! I'm hoping for actually still a good guy but with demon powers. *squee*
The way Gul'dan got all shifty eyed with concern is the odd part. It was like "Why hasn't he exploded yet?! How is he resisting?"
"Why do all supposed 'centrists' just sound like right wingers?"
"Also, can I just say that I think AOC would absolutely fucking annihilate Greene if Greene ever dared take an actual swing at her?" -- The state of the MMO-C circlejerk.
Btw somehow Anduin has his sword after the events of the Broken Shore, see the Anduin Comic for reference.
It was after we looted him and hearth out, we didn't see what happened to Illidan. Obviously Maiev put him in a crystal and had other Wardens to help her escort him. Demon Hunters come at this point, not "right after". There was easily 3-5 days between all this happening because she had to get a message to the other Wardens and they had to get to her.

I was ready to say "no!", but then I remembered that it's Blizzard and Illidan will be an light-knight. So, Why Not?
- Gul'dan drags his soul into a conduit
- Empowers a Metal Varian, which has his personality, twisted into a zealot of the Legion
- Hit it in the head for loot
