There's two potential models for rewards, random chance and eventual guaranteed reward with enough farming, aka currency.

There's a lot of aspects of both, and it seems Blizzard listened when players said they want legendaries to feel legendary like they did in BC and vanilla because they were random chance and not everyone had them via farming............

Soooooo they made it so that some players get 3-4 legendaries (just like that bad guild on your server got 7 sets of warglaives) and some get none (like how your guild got one main hand glaive and nothing else).
2014 Gamergate: "If you want games without hyper sexualized female characters and representation, then learn to code!"
2023: "What's with all these massively successful games with ugly (realistic) women? How could this have happened?!"

Bingo. Wow is not a casino. Theirs a HUGE dfference between the casino environment and warcraft. You will not get the same hook from one as you will the other and trying to apply it from one to the other just shows how little they actually know.about the people.playing this game.

You're one of the most geared people on Earth without a legendary which means, yes you have gotten lucky with other gear. I'd rather be lucky with gear like that than a legendary right now. EN is tuned around not having a legendary, you have many months to get a legendary before you actually need it. It's a month into an expansion that will last probably two years. God forbid people don't have a legendary that will be BiS for them for the next two years already.

I'm fine with things as they are now, actually, and that's coming from someone on the lower side of ilvl (852 / 853, no legendary).

RNG aside, there are absolute baselines for gear depending on the source, just as it's always been. All RNG means is that gear is less indicative of skill than it's ever been before.

Being a "rng loser" (I like that term) is way more punishing now than it's ever been. But, as I said, Legendaries, while a big problem, are probably the least important on the actual list.

There are a lot of far reaching consequences for what they've done in Legion.

One example is the almost utter destruction of the economy of the game due to the gathering RNG system. There are so few herb patches right in the game now, that the cost of anything related to them are just astoundingly high. And its now affecting everything else as well. Just yesterday I was looking to buy copper ore for an alt, and the prices for even those skyrocketed compared to just ~3 months ago. You want to know why there's been a gigantic resurgence of bots? Here ya go.

But the current excuse seems to be "B-b-but once people get rank 3 in gathering, it'll get better." I have two friends who are herbing atm. One has rank 2 in Starlight rose and one has rank 3. They were both telling me how that they compared the amount of roses they got from several nights of gathering. And the only difference seemed to be that the rank 3 person got ONE more than the rank 2 person on average per herb.

Who knows, it could have been intentional overreach because certain people made a billion zillion gold in WoD. But not all of us did. Not even a majority of us did. And now the economy is just completely and utterly fucked right now. For something that wasn't even needed or requested by anybody. People wanted professions to be revamped, but...

IMO, what you're seeing with professions is players reacting to a false sense of mat scarcity after the absolute clusterfuck that was WoD from an economy standpoint. Remember how infrequently titanium ore / frost lotus showed up in Wrath? Things aren't all that different now, and players aren't adapting well to it. Time will see prices drop, and the BoS trader will help settle things as well, if the exchange rates stay as they are on the PTR.

    There are other models:

    1. Skill-based: Following a pattern with extreme precision (pac-man)(vehicle racing in Darkmoon Faire)
    2. Skill-based: twitchy reflexes (Street Fighter 2)(whack a mole in Darkmoon Faire)
    3. Skill-based: mastering trajectories (Missile Command)(Cannon Launcher in Darkmoon Faire)(A whole lot of crap in Super Mario Brothers)
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.

This is what I feel is lacking most in WoW right now and something that the developers are intentionally avoiding....and I don't understand why.

My favorite system was always the badge/point system, because no matter how shitty RNG did me, I always had something to fall back on, and the system complements RNG-based loot extremely well. If I had a shitty robe and was saving up for one but just so happened to get one out of the current raid that week, I was even happier because then I got two upgrades out of that robe by merit of having those free points to spend on something else.

I miss having surefire goals to aim towards in WoW. Artifact Points are entirely too slow and incremental to replace it, and also don't guard against RNG in the same way. For example despite clearing EN several times and doing every Mythic each week since the first week I am still using my OH chest because I simply haven't seen a chest armor drop, ever, and I know the odds of me getting one from a dungeon aren't high enough for me to want to go hunt down every dungeon with chest armor for my armor type.

The problem with an RNG based loot system is that you hit a brickwall like you say if you are unlucky.

If you dont think its that bad then you are one lucky SoB it isnt just legendarys i have been spamming keystones and mythics but ive been stuck between ilvl 845-850 for over a month with hardly any upgrades except maybe some slightly better secondary stats, its like the difficulty between +3 and +4 shoots up like an addict, i can barely do mythic +4 which is where i would start getting decent upgrades, getting a piece to warforge or titanforge has felt akin to the lottery rather than a nice gradual pace of progression, i wont even get started on legendarys.

Really sucks when you inspect some players and see them in amazing gear because you know that they were luckier than you and there is an inherent unfairness because there is nothing you can do about it, you cant progress you character by progressing when its fkin random.

As much as I love this expansion, the Amount of RNG is getting pretty close to excessive.

It's skewing the effort /risk v.s. reward entirely in the wrong direction. Crazy windfall upgrades feel nice, but there has to be a reliable steady progression to work on as well

AP would be one example, but it's such a long term endeavor that it really can't hold attention for very long. Once you get your artfiact "mosty" done you start getting into AP requirements that get astronomically demmanding for how long we;ve been in the expansion,

There's a reason the AK Goes up to The TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PERCENTS for increased gains of Artifact Power by the time you get high enough. It's just too long-term to get buclked in to and engaged with right now.

So that leaves...nothing else to really sit down and putter around with if you want to progress anything. Everything else is completely up to the flip of the coin. Which shouldn't be that way- Luck should be a boon, not a primary means of acquisition.

This, even Diablo3 has Kadala. Something to work up to instead of playing a lottery.

At this point in time I am less concerned about RNG Legendaries than what I am about the RNG stats on gear, with sockets and Warforged/Titanforged. I don't seem to be able to get gear with the right stats on. It is not particularly fun DE'ing warforged and tintanforged gear all the freaking time because they have shitty stats. I'm a fire mage, I can't afford to swap out crit (Crit is valued higher than int, by quite a bit).
So it's like: Heart skips a beat... Fuck... Versatility/haste... Again.. Oh well, 20ilvls down the drain. YAY! - At least I'm getting gold out of it.....

Happens all the time. I'm not enjoying this at all, if unlucky (which I usually am) I could be stuck in this nasty vortex for a very long time, and there is no way for me to better the situation.

Canceled sub today. This hell hole of an RNG fest was one of the main reasons. I'm going to get burnt out really quickly. No thnx to that. (I love alts... Thinking about gearing up alts with this system. Depressing thought).

1st of all I noticed that #noflynobuy and you already bought it I'm glad. when flight becomes available at Legion; it'll be easier on alts to grind anyways. secondly, it might be a great time to take a break anyways. You can come back a while later with ak knowledge, flight and blizz's future catch up mechanism on legendaries it'll be better (targeting specific sources for specific legendaries in the future as they said and chances increases too if you don't get legendaries for months like me..)
I don't get your concerns about titanforged much. 20 i.level higher items than your current gear should be always better if they don't have crit even, except some trinket buffs?

As far as your claim that they are pre-set I am going to have to call you a liar, because they absolutely do NOT spawn in the same order.

Here is the list, please, show me the cycle or order you see in them.

what i dont understand is why they ported over diablo loot system without the enchanter... the current system would be million times better if we could break down garbage items into materials which we could then use to add socket, tertiary, ilvls or/and change secondaries on useful items.

    • Gearing up then you hit an RNG wall with getting a legendary.

    • A lot of the hidden artifact skins are total RNG.

You're going through the entire initial leveling experience at a nice pace. Great progression rhythm in everything. All of a sudden you hit that point at end game where 1) can't get a legendary because its total RNG, 2) can't get that extra artifact skin because it's total RNG, 3) no profession progression until you get WQ spawns/discoveries.

While the profession stuff doesn't seem like a major deal. Not getting a legendary is pretty shit. Also the fact that some hidden artifact skins have huge grinds after unlocking it makes the initial RNG extremely frustrating. You could do 10 WQ/day, a ton of dungeons all the time, lots of PVP but none of it will go towards that grind because you weren't lucky enough to land that skin.

What do you guys think? Are you okay with the RNG (talking to unlucky people - of course if you're lucky you like it)? If not, what do you think Blizzard should do to fix it?
can't agree more, I've reached a point atm that I need to wait for the weekly reset in order to maybe get an upgrade on my gear. Mythic+ is not my kind of content, although I liked it at start I've done so many dungeons spams that I can't even think of doing them again and again. Apart from that am a pugger so doing higher level of mythic+ is always very very hard.

Atm I got absolutely no reason to log in the game until next wednesday and after that I won't until next one etc until the new patch comes in or they open mythic xrealm.

Also with 2 days of sub left seems like this wednesday gonna be the last for me until 7.1.
