Well public opinion didn't want Donald Trump as president, but you can see where we are anyway...

I'm glad trump is finally getting tough on the real issues, but this isn't far enough, he should declare war on drugs!!

There's large enough public support for immigration and trade restrictions for him to pursue those types of policies despite how stupid they may be. Marijuana legalization isn't one of those issues where he can go against a large share of his own party and hope to succeed.

That said, the drug war is largely fought underground. Most people think of Obama as being more drug tolerant than Bush or Clinton but he managed to do more federal raids on dispensaries in his first 3 years than Bush or Clinton did in their 8 years.

Trump is likely (in my opinion) to be similar to this. He's going to continue the unreported busts on the industry while on the surface, acceptance of legalization continues to grow.

You've really buried your head in the sand for the situation you created by voting for Trump, haven't you?

They're doing it, that's a quote from Sean Spicer. They're going to attempt it one way or another. Will it get stopped by those of us who live in reality is the real question. Howsabout showing some of that "Personal responsibility" you keep yackin' on about instead of just denying you've helped set the house on fire?

I didn't vote for Trump. You say that every thread so here's my Florida ballot. I voted for a guy who has freely admitted his love for Cannabis use many times.

I don't know what you're talking about with "personal responsibility". I fully expect the drug war to continue covertly under Trump but I don't think state by state legalization is going to be reversed because of the outcry against his administration that he would rather save for more important (equally terrible) issues that he got elected on like his immigration nativism and trade protectionism.

About 60% of people favor legalization.

Oh, the good old party of small government. Look at that, Republicans being completely hypocritical again, that hasn't happened in the past 20 minutes.

Healthcare being regulated by the government? No way, the government shouldn't be that involved in your life.
States legalizing a drug that's proved to be harmless? Nope, the government needs to be more involved in your life.

Republicans really care about your health, that's why they're trying so hard to make sure all drugs are illegal. Oh, so I get to keep my healthcare? Nope, Republicans need to take that away, because they don't really care about your health.

It's truly sad how many Americans get conned by these people, and even sadder that they still don't realize it's happening.

Isn't even medical weed still federally legal?

Yes, it is, but medical weed has been legalized in some conservative states, while recreational weed is pretty much exclusive to liberal states. It's pretty clear why they're doing the crackdown.

10 bucks says Sessions tries to crack down on porn in some fashion too. And not just go after child pornographers either. It really must burn up some Republicans that the founders started off the first amendment with no state sponsored religion.

If he does that everyone should mail him porn. Just thousands and thousands of letters containing nothing but porn.

I wonder what happened in 2012 and 2014 that caused that dip.

Dunno, but honestly that's probably what the whole chart looks like if they'd polled annually. The reason why you see more fluctuation there is simply because you have a closer grouping of data points.

I presume Republican backlash against more liberal states legalizing it?

I doubt it since Trump said he believes recreational use should be up to the states but then he will be under some republican pressure over it as well. I will assume its another 4d chess play to bring drugs into light. Hard for me to comment since the weed culture is much different/worse in America than my country from all what I have seen.
I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to the death to defend your right to say it.
