Basically their budgeting department thinks that if they cut support for Vista specific issues (which don't really exist) they will save money by not having to help/assist people with those illusionary issues, and that this will offset any money lost (via losing subs from people who cannot afford a new OS/computer). To then ensure that people cannot use an unsupported OS they then have the tech department configure the software to refuse to install/run on said OS (and sadly nobody in the tech department dares to tell them they're being stupid and that Vista/7/8/10 all share the NT6 kernel, meaning supporting one means supporting all).
The major flaw in their plan is obviously that it won't really save any money just alienate customers, it's one of those things that only makes any sense to a person with limited understanding of what's happening/involved.
They did the same thing with Windows 2000 a number of years back (Which being the same core OS as XP was defacto supported until this year).
