    Google fires diversity critic

If you are unaware, a few days ago there was a controversy sweeping Twitter regarding a leaked internal memo written by a Google engineer who wrote a manifesto complaining about Google's efforts to increase diversity in its workforce.

The employee complained that conservatives were either ignored or ridiculed, that there is a liberal bias and that women are biologically unsuitable for certain technical roles. This created a shit storm with Google's vice president for diversity (seriously) condemning the memo telling employees that these views will not be tolerated and the author of the document would be tracked down and disciplined.

Right wing bloggers were outraged saying the author is entitled to view his opinions regardless of how controversial they are. The author was being held up as a hero of free speech and anti PC.

Of course Google tracked down the author and promptly fired him. So much for free speech and freedom of views. Diversity is not diversity when everyone has to sing from the same song sheet and individual thought is forbidden.

It'd be a nicer place to work if they fired all the conservatives.

All the conservatives I know are, frankly, jerks.

You talk shit about your company in public and let yourself get caught, you get fired. That's the way it has always been.

And please read up what "freedom of speech" means and what it protects you from.

Good for google, plenty of places on Stormfront or the InfoWars or Breitbart for that kind of lunacy and nonsense. Free market and all.

You have freedom of speech from government interference. you are not free from consequences. Google is a company and it is free to fire people who hurt it's brand, which this douche definitely did. If conservatives really cared so much about the free market i'd think they'd champion google's adherence to do what is best for it's business.

Unemployment is never a happy occasion. It occurring due to wrong-think only makes this a more disagreeable outcome.

Someone who holds the view that women aren't as capable at software engineering as men clearly isn't smart enough to handle the job. Google's just increasing their efficiency with this move.

Memo filled with evidence, neutral tone, and thorough sourcing.

Gets called sexist and racist because it presents evidence.

    What the hell.

At least 50% of people in any given country would consider themselves conservative. how are you promoting diversity by only ever employing progressive liberals?

Ironically the author of this memo is a liberal progressive.

    Go figure.

PS: Might want to use this link instead as source. http://diversitymemo.com/

It contains all the graphs and original sources used in the memo, so people will stop assuming Gizmodo's the original version without facts to back it up.

Gizmodo is dishonest piece of shit site, they are largely omitting huge parts of the memo.

Where he said things like "Treat people as individuals and not as a stereotypes or generalizations of their group."

    Or

Oh well thanks again for proving how dangerous and insane this cult is, huge parts of the tech world is infected with this feminism/social justice disease.

They are now suggesting go after everyone who supported the memo aswell, calls for violence and destroying their careers.

This is exactly how freedom of speech is supposed to work. he was free to say what he wanted, and his employer was free to respond how they wanted. They used their own speech to fire his ass, and now he is still free to say what he wants. Freedom for everyone.

So his first major point is bullshit, there's more dudes in tech cuz when programming became lucrative men worked to push women out of programming positions.

Reply from a more senior programmer

SO without his BS "women arent in tech cuz biology" which is a fucking moronic idea anyway. All you've got left is "won't you tolerate my intolerance!"

I'm offended that google would fire someone who argues the idea that women are congenitally stupid.

Good point. However, lets say hypothetically this was a Black/Asian/ and or Hispanic (maybe also someone who's gay) wrote out the same type of memo about the company they work for. The memo would include things like how the company is hiring more white men(maybe straight) while showing data and statistics to back it up) Would this person be considered a hero or some jackass?

Would it get the same equal backlash that this guy got? Also, I read plenty of comments from where the memo was posted that this person is a 'White privileged angry man" and has no justification to talk.
