WoW expansions belong to Blizzcon (except the special case after WoD accident). They need something special to avoid last years dissapointment. And revealing a new WoW expansion makes a Blizzcon special. Maybe new expansion needs a bit more manpower to create, so it could also be too early to tease something at gamescon...

Totally agree. Legion announcement at Gamescom was nice and okay for the situation WoW was in but expansion announcements at Blizzcon are just... bigger, better (faster stronger).

How is it wrong though? Beta is out right after blizzcon, goes on for 5 months (dec, jan, feb, march, april) is down for one month and launches in June.

Expansions are announced and released usually within one year.

If you are just going to say "well they can change the pattern whenever they want" why are you even bothering to post here? Like you can just say what you think and then leave cause it's just your gut feeling and we have ours and there's nothing to talk about because "Anything can happen!"

Maybe they will release two expansion at once! Maybe they will just remaster legion with new HD textures!!

I just think something "special" like WoW is better placed at Blizzcon. Diablo and Overwatch are great for Gamescom (maybe even Hearthstone nowadays) because they cater to a bigger audience. WoW is still a "game for nerds" and not in the ranks of Diablo or Overwatch when it comes to playerbase. And the expansion announcements during Blizzcon just were... right. I'm glad they're going back to their used schedule.
