Is there a better game than Diablo 3?

Im not sure there is one at the moment. The longevity and replayability of the game will be seen for years and years. Of all the games out right now, i cant think of a single game that has more of a fun-factor than Diablo 3.

I can list all the reasons why I feel Diablo 3 is such a great game, but I think everyone already knows them at this point.

Do you think there is a better game than Diablo 3? If so, what is it, and why do you feel that way?

Better in what way? There are plenty of terrific games in the history of pc gaming, depending on your taste some will be better for you than D3.

If you're arguing for D3 being the best game of all time then I suggest you give up, it's a lost cause.
It's a very good game, blizzard knows their stuff.


For me personally Dragon Age, Halo series, Mass effect 1/2 are some of my favorites. If we're talking about older games then I enjoyed NWN, Freelancer, Homeworld, kotors, half life, aoe: aok more than D3, but I still like it.

Torchlight 1 and 2 might be something to your liking if you want the hack 'n' slash style of play.

Other then that there are plenty of RPG's that are vastly superior to Diablo 3 in all ways.
Diablo 3 falls very short on storyline and interesting characters, something even Kingdoms of Amalur manages better. As for the actual RolePlaying Game-side of it, anything is better then D3
D3 is pretty brainless.

Lets put it this way. I wouldn't have played diablo 3 if I hadn't gotten it for free from the annual pass (since I would be playing wow anyway) and after having played it I am glad I didn't pay for it, and wouldn't have paid for it regardless.

I'm waiting for all the fanboys to get sick of it so they stop asking me to log in and grind inferno when I have no desire to put any effort into it.

It really comes down to personal opinion what you may find fun, one person may find boring as all hell

Well right now, I dont see any other game with the replayability that Diablo 3 has.

Reasons?

1) Randomized dungeons - Everything is random including monster placement with exception of a few story areas

2) Randomized loot - This one is huge! No set items except for legendaries and set peices which are not the best items in the game if you find a perfectly rolled rare item.

3) 5 Unique Classes - So many character builds its mind blowing. All the people whining about skill trees were dead wrong there. There is tons of customization, and only more to come in the expansion

4) Hardcore - This alone will keep me playing for years to come

5) PvP - This also will keep me playing for years to come. I played the arena at both the 2010 and 2011 blizzcons and i must say, it was the most fun PvP I have ever played in any game (yes even better than WoW)

People have different opinions on everything, including games.
Also there's different kind of games, different genres.
Therefore in my opinion there's no such thing as a ''best game''
You can seperate good games from bad ones though, and Diablo III is a good game.

I like Diablo III, but I'm not overly thrilled either. I'm not looking forward to the massive grindfest to get some better gear for example.
I'll probably stop playing after I finished Hell unless I can get a very active nice group to make the farming more enjoyable.

That said I like Skyrim better than Diablo III for example. It's more my type of game and it's very well done.

Only played D3 beta and well, it was rubbish. Yea I know it was beta but the basic fighting platform was there and that is what the game is about.
Still the same spam click the mouse 2000/second at everything you see as was the playstyle in D1 and D2, both of which I played a hell of alot.
Some like it, I dont but D3 will probably never be a top10 game of all time. Only BLZ game having a shot at ending high would probably be SC, not WoW and certainly not the Diablo serie.

Edit: I've played pc games since C64 era ~28 years and still play. There are titles that eat up Diablo in one bite.
Games that lasted for so long and games that had an entire new genre based of them.
Diablo have none of that.

World of warcraft loses its replayability the instant you walk into the next tier of raiding. Once you seen the place, you seen it all. Diablo 3 provides RANDOMIZED dungeons and mosnters, which makes each play through completely unique and different from the last.

Cant find that in a set wow dungeon..

From what I've heard and seen from professional streamers they HATE D3, They put just a severe block on the game without spending literally 24/7 on the game doing nothing but grinding. There is no PvP in the game, and pretty much no end game content other then farm to get past this block (Im talking about mob packs 1 shotting you) The streamers I see are spending money on the AH to acquire the gear, and have long stopped "Playing" the game.

It was highly amp'ed but a severe let down on every account. Blizz rushed the game just like they have been rushing WoW's content. Notice how I said nothing about server issues

But I too think Diablo 3 is a great game...best game of all time? No. Is there better games? Yes. We will all have our different points of views on which games are the best.

It depends on what genre I'm in the mood for, I guess. Batman: Arkham City, Portal, and the Sam & Max series are all high up on my list of top games.

D3 sold better the first day than SC2 did the first month. I would assume SC2 is the least of WoW's current franchises.

What do you mean by that? I'm curious. The maps? You would actually prefer the D2 square maps that were all just emptiness with dead ends. That once you figured out you knew exactly where the entrances exits would be? Once you figured that out you could beat D2 in less then 2 hours and the maps didn't feel random at all. What about all the random dungeons that weren't there in D2, they were static. They are different every time you run through the game in D3. Some might be there, some wont be.

What did D2 have that was more random then in D3? The gear, maps and champs/elites are all more random to me.

And at the moment for me, no there is not. I love everything about this game, my friends and I are having tons of fun. Haven't even thought about touching ME3, SWTOR or WoW since it came out.

All the dungeons feel EXACTLY the same except for the different mob spawns. There aren't significant differences to me. Each playthrough feels pretty much exactly the same.

Oh man hallway B3 connects to cathedral a4 in a different way! Oh man that's so much different than earlier when it was B2 Connected to A4.

I had a reasonably fun time playing through Diablo On normal. The added difficulty is kinda fun. But I see no reason to grind shit so I can do Inferno effectively since I got shafted on drops for the entirety of my playthrough of hell.

Compared to other games I have replayed for years (BG2, Morrowind, Oblivion, IWD, NWN, Dungeon Seige 1) I don't see myself playing diablo 3 outside of when all my friends pester me about it, and even then it snot the game that is endearing me to play it. I personally don't think that makes it a good game.

SC2 is the most competitive e-sport out there bar none. D3 is on a high roll right now following the release, in the long run it will never beat SC2.

Personally D3 was the first diablo game I really played. I've played it for 100+ hours now with an awesome group of friends and really enjoyed the game. But I've soloed act II and solo (and later coop) killed belial on inferno, essentially the hardest part of the game, and I'm already looking at other games. It was fun and I'm ready to move on. The only thing keeping me in D3 right now is that auction house trade not across a single realm but an entire region is a fun game in its own right.
