And before idiots invade, no, garrisons are not just something you can choose not to do, any more than you can choose not to enchant your items or put gems in your sockets. In a game that's all about improving your character, one of the main methods of doing so cannot reasonably be considered optional. Half of WoW's character advancement is tied to the garrison.
And my god is it tedious. As soon as the newness novelty wore off, I've hated every moment of it. It's completely lonely, totally bereft of any actual gameplay, and horrendously designed behind this wall of artificial mobile game style waiting. There's nothing you can actively work towards, there's nothing you can go out and really spend time on. Still you can't just leave it alone and check in once a day or you will miss out on 75% of your mission quota.
Whose idea was it to tie half of WoD's gameplay into a glorified Facebook game? It's as if the developers knew nothing about gaming at all and just looked at what's popular lately, saw mobile gaming, and concluded that what's good about that is the fact that you have to wait for stuff. They then failed to comprehend that the reason mobile games are like that is not because waiting is entertaining but because it's meant to encourage players to pay to bypass the waits. But the developers only got as far as "the new games make people wait all the time, so let's have that in WoW."
In WoD, almost every venue of character advancement is now gated behind artificial time limitations. Once finished with 5-man heroics, there's nothing left that you can actively work towards when you wish.
Daily CM is once per day, CMs give no rewards outside of that quest.
Professions are gated behind your daily cooldown and work orders, can't be sped up.
Raids reset once a week, as has always been the case, which was fine back when all the other content was available ad libitum.
Apexis crystals can only be obtained in very limited amounts, barring spending ridiculous amounts of hours farming mobs for pitiful returns which is really not something that anyone should tolerate.
After finishing with heroics, it seems like there's enough gameplay for character advancement to fill about two hours per day, and then the rest of the time you just wait for your missions to come home. Can't farm crafting materials; the useful BoEs sell for 100k and drop so rarely that you can't realistically farm them; reputation rewards are now cosmetics and toys only. What exactly is one supposed to do with more than a couple of hours of playtime a day?
