facebook: where to draw the line with pictures of your children?

While checking Facebook this morning, the top of my news feed disturbed me. My friend's wife posted bath pictures of her toddler. There was a full frontal shot of this 2 year old boy.

I'm not what foreigners might consider "typical American afraid of nudity", but I was not wanting or expecting a naked child to be the first thing to appear when opening FB.

It has me wondering if I'm just being weird, because I think the idea of posting nudes of your child online is a really bad idea. I know, but don't understand why, many parents seem to obsess over naked baby pictures. I don't have children so maybe someone can explain it to me. It just seems like the only reason for them is to blackmail teenagers ("when you bring your prom date over I'm going to bust out your baby book").

Also, what/where is the line drawn for child pornography vs baby pictures? I don't think she had bad intentions in any way, but it seems like a good way for the pictures to end up in the wrong hands.

Feel free to post nudes, as long as you're decent enough to censor it. American censorship or not, you simply don't post 100% naked baby pictures. Want to post a naked kid? Censor it or cut off the bottom half.

For the record, I'm 100% not "afraid of nudity" (hell, far from it, but that's for another discussion), but there's a fine line between posting a kid picture in a bathtub, and a kid picture showing their full birthday suit. Just think to yourself: "Will someone jerk off to this?" If the answer is anything but "probably not", then you should edit, cut, or delete it, especially when posting to a website like fucking FACEBOOK.
Still wondering why I play this game.

my mind is about to explode... Now naked toddlers become offensive? Is that what I get from this?

Naked baby pictures are innocent in a family photo album, but unfortunately on the Internet there is no such thing as innocence. Personally I wouldn't post a single picture of my children on the Internet until they are old enough to have an account themselves. Then again, I don't have any children, so what the fuck do I know.

I would never post pictures of my childrens` faces, let alone nudes. Those who want to see pictures can see them by other means, the rest can fuck off. On facebook? Never.

I mean I get what you're getting at. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but naked babies pictures are cute, for the family photo album. Not so cute for our digital age, where everyone and anyone will be looking.

    Especially in social media.

No, they're not offensive. But what parent would want their children's pictures to end up on a perverts screen?

Any parent or posts pictures of their child in a bath with their private area visible on FB deserves it tbh. What stupid people would do this? It's so cringe.

given how the overwhelming amount of such sexual crimes are committed by people known to the victim.....
It's the family album that's more creating the risk than pictures shared amongst facebook friends.

Imo, there is no reason to put naked pictures up of your child on the net for any reason what so ever, this is not because I have a thing about nudity, but rather I have a problem with innocent pics making their way into the hands of the scum of the earth and being used as currency for images of children that have been abused.

I would draw the line at anything that purposefully embarrasses your child or is completely taboo. Posting nude photos of your child should be a huge DO NOT DO THIS alert for parents (and may also be against the law). Putting "shaming" pictures online of your kids is also wrong; it's just passive aggressive behavior which means you are not teaching / disciplining your child in a healthy way.

I would say naked baby pictures shouldn't be posted on facebook. I would go so far as to call doing so dickish behavior. That said, I think the odds of Phil the Pedophile getting his rocks off to little Jimmy's baby todger are low.

People just shouldn't be posting pictures of their kids on the internet, period. Naked pictures of kids - nobody wants to see that shit in the first place, and you're just opening that up for the paedophiles out there. Stupid people are stupid, though.

Wait... this person put a picture of their naked child on Facebook? I mean I wouldn't want to see it, but I probably wouldn't care. But putting on Facebook? On the internet? What a horrible fucking idea.

Could that be classified as child pornography though? Seems like a grey area.

This comes from the "think of the children" era

Perverts, everywhere perverts. The monster under the bed? Clearly a pedophile. The black man in the wardrobe, too.

    It's getting mighty silly.

Speaking as someone who has a father who was arrested and convicted for being one of the biggest child porn traders in the state, you don't want to just place your naked kid's picture everywhere for every pervert to see.

Exspecially not connected to bits of information that make it possible to dox said child I suppose.

Its one thing to have "just" a picture but a picture with sensitive information well.....
