What are the Best Headphones gaming/music?

I am asking this because my wife bought me some Beats Mixr's (about 250$) about a year and a half ago. However when I went to put them on today, they broke. They stupid head band broke in two. So I am now looking to purchase some new ones. Now I know Beats are overpriced and not of the greatest quality and I didn't want to down play her gift as she was very excited to get me for my birthday because the idiot at Stupid Buy was able to convince her that they are awesome. I'm sure this will not be covered under warranty and most likely my better option is to buy new ones. I was wondering what would be some of the best options for some new ones between 50-100$, 100 - 150$ and 150$+

You can usually get an awesome deal on some Sennheiser 598s around this time of year. I have had mine for three years with zero issues. Good luck!

    Sennheiser is generally well regarded.

I'd avoid Beats (duh) and Bose (overpriced imo).

I'm a fan of Audio Technica ATH-M50x for headphones. They're pricey, but solidly the best headphones I've ever had. If you really need a mic, I'm not sure where to point you, as I've found most headset/mic combos to either have subpar sound or a subpar mic.

Crap, forgot about the mic or not. Generally I will not be using a mic. I do have a headset to use when needed.

We'll I'll tell you what I know from experience from gaming headsets.

    Corsair Vengeance 1500
I preferred the sound quality from these more than any other pair I've owned. I loved it so much I bought a second one after the first broke ...then a third after the second broke ..and ya the third one broke too. In fact they all broken in the exact same way which was at the in-line volume controller. It seems Corsair wanted to save $0.000001 cents per unit by going with the smallest cheapest 40 gauge wire they could find. The in-line controlled has a small piece of PCB that these hair-thin wires have been laser soldered to and even with the most delicate of handling they eventually break off. If you don't mind knowing that your $80-100 will last you about a year then go for it. Mic quality is ehhh.

    Logitech G430
Sound meh, mic meh, the piece of plastic that allows the over-ear part to rotate interdependently of the headband is thin ...cheap ...and broke after about 4 months.

    Razer Kraken
Sound was a little better than the Logitech, mic was total crap and after a week of being yelled at by people in voice chat I put them in the trash.

    Kingston Hyper X Cloud 2
This is what I'm using now and both the sound quality and mic are great. Headset construction is good but I'm worried about moving the mic too much cause it feels as if it might be a part that eventually breaks so I got a headset stand for them. It has an in-line controller but its a odd because the headset feeds out at 3.5mm jack into the controller and then from that to USB. If you want simulated 7.1 you have to use USB, and if you don't care you can plug straight into the 3.5mm but the cord is short so its a toss up.

All of these can be found in the $75-100 range.

Definitely audiotechnica. Beats are overpriced junk ( same as anything else apple). Sennheiser if you want the best of the best but with the price tag too. Bose is a little overrated, but OK.

I bought some over the ear Sennheiser phones for myself and the sound is great. No mic on mine tho. Also I've lost about 25% of my hearing over the year after I bought them, so don't be a dumbass like me and fall asleep at you desktop with them cranked.

Beats by Dre are shit, you are paying $300 for sub par shit, you are paying for a name, and trying to fit it.

Audiotechnica M50s are very nice casual listening headphones at a very fair price and sound a lot more even than beats. Sennheiser is better for reference quality listening and will produce a SUPER even mix(at least the old HD280s have have kicking around do). I personally prefer Shure over Sennheiser, but the price barrier to get a good sounding pair of Shure headphones is much higher(Like $300 or something).

I also don't know much about Beats headphones, but if the "Mixr" part means they are meant for mixing, they might be open back headphones, which is different than any of the previously mentioned headphones. If they were open backed headphones, you might want something like from AKG. It's all personal preference though.

I heard walking off a cliff was also hot stuff. Anyone with Beats, especially those who say they sound great, should try it.

I have beats...and they do sound good.

But I wouldn't buy them personally, my parents got them for me since I usually end up breaking headphones within a year, they got me the folding pair, Beats Solo I believe it was called.

They are, by far from any means, bad. Are they the best? No. Are they worth it for the price? No. Are they bad? Still no.

It's just being one out of three isn't worthy of buying.

I don't know about the others, but I'll say this, don't buy a headset from Logitech. I have a pair of G930s and they broke repeatedly. Cheap plastic in areas that are going to be stresssed. I went through 4 sets before the warranty ran out (all because of the same cheap plastic part) and the 5th eventually started having electrical shorts before the shitty plastic part wore out on that set.

I'm also currently using some Kingston Hyper Xs (don't remember the exact version). Had them about a year. Haven't treated them even as well as I treated the G930s and they're holding up great. No flaking on the over ear cushion. Braided cord, so if your chair rolls over the wire it doesn't matter. I've stepped on the inline controller at least 30 times and it still works fine. The mic on mine is removable, and you can get replacement parts, so I'm not worried about my mic. And ya, the wire from the headset to the controller is short, so I'd use the controller. I would feel more comfortable recommending them if I'd had them another year to check their durability then, but hey, fishes, and nets and whatever.

    Razer for sure.

Ever since getting that headset I've been amazed at how useful it is!

Primarily serving as ear muffs in this god forsaken cold after they broke in a week.
