    Did minecraft steal WoW's thunder??

WoW's been in decline, lost like 5 or 8 million players or something like that. It doesn't make much sense because WoW should grow bigger or have an army of the current generation of children to play it and replace any loss player. So if it doesn't grow bigger it should at least maintain subscription number. Yet it's declining. Is it because children 10-15 yrs old now a day are playing Minecraft instead??? So Minecraft block them from WoW?

What, no. Just stop with these threads. All media in the history of mankind has seen a decline in users over time.

Yes. Minecraft and Terraria are the real culprits of WoW's Decline. You are most certainly 102% correct.

Minecraft is much cheaper of an investment than wow. The two games are also extremely different. I don't think one can correctly substitute the other. But you're on track that minecraft probably attracts more younger kids than wow. But no, I don't think minecraft can still thunder from a game not in its genre.

What a stupid thread. How could a single player game that you play out of boredom be a direct competitor for an MMO? Sense = 0.

Well, certainly WoW and Minecraft has that aspect of a big world that you can explore and do stuff in...and unlike an adult like you who would play it, minecraft would be new to kids and exciting not play out of bordome. So why would a kid explore and do stuff in WoW if they can do it in Minecraft?

I think as the kid walk toward WoW, minecraft like jumps in the way, block and distract them and the kid forget about WoW and interact with minecraft instead.

I imagine the amount of intial outlay puts off most kids.

what? what kind of logic is that? minecraft is a b2p single player game, wow is a sub based MMO.
2 totally DIFFERENT games, how the hell can minecraft be the reason why wow is in a decline?

THat applies also to any other game with a big world. You explore and do stuff in them.

I take it back. That applies to almost every other game out there.

    No.

A lot of things must be wrong in the way you construct your model of the world for this to make sense to you.

No, not to mention they draw completely different players. Minecraft isnt even an MMO.. all it has common in WoW is that it's online? I guess, never played it. It looks awful.

Minecraft is neither free nor single player. There is a single player mode, but it is not a solely single player game

Not specifically, no. As has been said many times before, it comes down to market diversification, not only in the video game sector but in all aspects of entertainment. The customer is spoiled for choice nowadays. Unless you are a dedicated, hardcore WoW player who has little to no interest in other forms of entertainment, the sheer amount of competition for your time and money must lead to an erosion of the playerbase as other things draw their attention away.

No. What really stole WoW's thunder aside from the game itself is that competition for mmo gamers got tighter with a large number of high production value releases.

It isn't 2007 anymore with WoW being the only worthwhile themepark MMO on the market.

Once WoW goes F2P, the only game that might still be bigger is LoL, but thats about it. WoW is far from the glories day if we gonna count in F2P sooner or later.
