if you told somebody 'shape up or you're out', and 30+ attempts later they haven't shaped up... why are they still in the raid? Is shouting at somebody going to cause them to be able to do something they clearly aren't capable of doing?

which is kind of the point. You can have a culture of accountability in your raid without needing leadership to vent their spleen when people play poorly.

Not saying that your were 30+ wipes on one night. I mean't in total after the boss was killed. As in that guy still doesn't have a kill because he/she can't get his head around a particular mechanic that is constantly killing him/her. Yet you still give them a chance each week to see if they've gotten better and the boss does have a piece of gear that they could use.

Damn you make a lot of assumptions in one post. First of all, re-read my post because you misunderstood it completely. I never said one person was messing up for 150 pulls on a boss. I said that anyone who is fucking up after seeing the boss 150 times, period is going to get talked to. Even if it's the first time they've messed up that night. Once you have a fight to that point it should all be muscle memory and unless you're not paying attention you could do the fight with your eyes closed.

Secondly, where did you get the impression that I scream and yell at people in my raids? I'm not afraid to call them out, but I don't raise my voice at them. You made it seem like getting onto people who mess up in raids is unacceptable and that everyone who has found a way to do it without screaming and yelling is lying. That's simply not the truth. I'm not afraid to call people out when they mess up because they are a part of a team and they are wasting people's time when they mess up. If they mess up for long enough, they get replaced.

Raid Leaders shouldn't be cussing and yelling and screaming at people, most people do not respond well to that sort of abuse. I personally, have thick skin and a lot of patience, if I am in a raid with a leader of some sort cussing and being abusive, I generally tune it out. If it becomes unbearable, I leave.

Raiding in itself can be stressful, having a raid leader yell and scream and cuss someone out is not necessary. Call out specific failures and provide feedback on how to correct the issue. If someone doesnt "fix" whatever they screwed up after a couple of pulls, pull them aside in vent/mumble and discuss it like an adult. If the raider can't fix the issue, replace or remove them.

Nobody said to shout either, but you keep bringing this up and projecting on everyone else. Do you do it yourself by chance?

As for personal experience, calling people out(not shouting obviously) repeatedly does work to get them to fix their mistakes. Eventually. At least they know they are the ones dragging down the raid, so they will feel some pressure at upping their game.

The mechanics in WoW boss fights aren't rocket science. Anyone who pays even a sliver of attention to the game should be able to handle every mechanic in game. A lot of times they just need a kick in the pants to pay attention and plan ahead. You also never know if they are simply misunderstanding a mechanic. I've seen times where we're 80 pulls in on a boss and someone goes "Ohhh so we're supposed to do X?" and it's like...yeah we've said that this whole time. Sometimes people just misunderstand what they are supposed to do and a little clarification can make things easy.

Would never raid in a guild like that. Those people probably try and pass of that behaviour as "constructive criticism". It's really not. It's just a way for them to vent their frustrations. I don't think being abused makes anyone concentrate better... More likely their mind will just be stewing about that more than the encounter.
