Well, I sometimes casually play the game.

If it's not about the drop at 2010 about Aion, though, I would be careful. It doesn't have the current popularity of WoW, but it certainly rises as quickly as WoW in Vanilla did. (Well, so except for the last drop, then...)

Why do people still play Lineage?!

Is it because of all the nudie mods? Because if that's the case there's better porn out there on the internet for free!

Hell, Allods is free to play and I'm sure it has better models!

The peak was just after the US and EU joined in the Aion game. So I would assume that the drop was from the US and EU people leaving due to finding it boring. Koreans on the other hand love Aion/Lineage type RPGS, due to them being Korean RPGs.

Boring. Buggy. Laggy. Filled with gold spammers the likes of which even free to play games don't even tolerate. Call it what you want.

The game is shit until you're about 70% of the way to max level, and then it's shit again once you reach max level due to their ridiculous loot system and lack of content despite the game having been out for a year before release in the west.

To top it off about half of the character animations are annoying as all hell, the starting zones for the two races are damn near mirrors of each other, the "cutscenes" are ridiculously bad (EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME OLD LADY CLOSE-UP! and bad DBZ-esque fight scenes where my character is off-screen half of the time), and the voice acting... GOD DAMN the voice acting!

Anyone who complains about Sindragosa yelling at you needs to play a mage character in Aion for 15 minutes.

I wonder how this would compare currently with the following games as well:

    City of Heros/City of Villians
    D&D Online
Eve Online (75,000 users online last time I accessed)
Happy Farms (although they have 23 million active subscribers I don't know how or even if they are monetized)
LOTRO (A lot of people QQ'ing about how bad WoW is so you can't really escape WoW's hold on MMOs)
Warhammer Online (supposedly capped at 800,000 and dropped to ~ 300,000 (curiously about the same time WotLK was released apparently)

While the data in this chart is old it is interesting.

A lot of these games are now free to play so that doesn't bode well especially since they don't announce numbers (except WoW).

Lololol. It won't be. Release day of new expansions are ROUGH. Not only do you have all the bugs, glitches, exploits and dead ends they weren't able to iron out during beta, but the servers are under a fucking tremendous workload from all the people. It's like Black Friday, Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July, Tet, Hannukah, Ramadan, and Halloween all rolled into one giant disconnect.

I'm sorry but I've been here since the initial alpha on vanilla and never has WoW been able to compare with even a bad sales day on Black Friday.

Not even when turning in a quest in Westfall would disconnect Kalimdor.

The only instance where I think it would compare was the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj.

Mid-November is when I expect to be back in WoW. No point starting my account's up till then. Same is true for most of my friends/guildies as well. Since October has Fallout:New Vegas and Startwars Force II coming out for consoles I will be happy and have my killing lust saited till November

2 weeks before Cataclysm is when I expect it to peak. Smart people get their accounts up and running BEFORE the madness of release week..remember that!

Then you have the other 2 groups...people that are going to brave the release week madness and those that are going to start playing Cataclysm a few weeks after it releases.

If you like pain and anguish, be sure to play a worgen on launch week...it should make the Blood Elf launch look tame...heh!

The big drop is when they announced that they were going to implement the realid in forums. :P

Speaking of RealID don't forget to turn it off when your account goes active again.

He's not. The peak of Aion was when the US and EU had just joined in. The dip down was when the US and EU left because it was rubbish.

Hey... Runescape didn't end in 2009...

And look, they have a steady growing fanbase! Just think, in 2000 years they will have more players than wow if it continues to grow at such a pace!
