And that's one of the main issues with mastery - the more procs you get the less you need them further devaluing mastery , which means that even if they buff the proc chance it is very unlikely to significantly increase it's usefulness.
This cannot be repeated too many times. Please don't mind if I quote this post in replys to other threads as well.

Yeah something desperately needs to be slapped onto the current hand of light proc to make it scale, and not suck in the first place. However, the current implementation is so flawed that it probably needs to be scrapped completely. Turning it into some sort of Ret version of Elemental overload would work. Or just make old Seal of Command be our mastery. Sigh, right as they got rid of Armor Pen they gave us another worthless stat that might even be worse.

I need a bit of help with something.
Considering I have my herald set with around 350 haste, that makes my CS close to 4.0 seconds cd.
This would mean that if I would go with a CS->filler->CS->filler->CS etc rotation, I would end up wasting 1 second every 4 seconds, which would be a waste of 25% of my dps that is coming from direct abilities. In the other hand, If I am going with a CS->2x filler->CS->2x filler-> etc rotation, this would mean that I would want to reduce my haste even more, to make my CS closer to 4.5 seconds, since I anyway don't benefit from the haste that lowers the cd of CS from 4.5 to 4.0 seconds.
So, what do you think guys, which would be the best way to go? Reforge everything to haste so that I get a tiny bit closer to 3.6 seconds cd on CS, but ofc in expense of some critical strike? Or shall I get rid of all the haste I can, and reforge it to critical strike when not present on the gear, or to mastery when I have critical on the item?

Never ever ever reforge to mastery the stat is a total waste and considering that pretty much all items have crit+haste on them the only thing you can reforge is hit/exp - so if you have excess hit (more than 8%) or expertise (more than 12) you should reforge it to haste or if you're missing either of them you should reforge your crit to either of them.
As for waiting for CS to come of cd with that low amount of haste - it depends on the ability if you only have Holy Wrath or Judgement ready it should be better to wait if you have Exorcism, Hammer of Wrath or Templar's verdict ready you should use them instead of waiting for the cd.

Tested reforging to mastery first and then switched to reforging haste. Noticed a dps increase at a boss dummy of about 400-600 dps when reforging to haste. I read about mastery being inferior but the test prove it to me. I think mastery will have to be revamped for ret if they really want us to use it.

They said they dont want specific stats being too inferior to others on gear so i think a revamp has to happen. I dont know what would be a way to do that ... simply because im not that creative for thinking out mechanics

At the moment (according to EJ) its not even a gain to get any socket bonuses and instead youre supposed to always use 20str gems regardless of the bonus simply because str is so much superior to every other stat on gear. Blizzard said socket bonuses will be worth much more in cata because of them being higher overall. I hope thats true because its not that interesting to only have one gem option overall.
