So why is it 85 and not 90?

They are trying to stretch the WoW franchise out untill level 100?. by doing it in 5 level incriment's they therefore have more room to release expansion packs...because i guarentee the will stop WoW at lvl 100

So they can stretch out the money making. It's a simple business plan. When people start leveling over 100, it starts getting silly. This way, they can pump out 3 more xpacks if they keep up this 5 levels per, instead of 1 more (if they did 2x 10 level xpacks)

I think Blizz wants more money, milk it as much as possible till 100. Its smart on their part.

it's so they can push 5 levels every 1.5 years, if they did that with prev. ones wed just be hittint 75 which i think would be ideal for them. it's gonna get far fetched when we're lvl 120 with 900 million HP

Maybe because the game progress too fast or something like that?

Remember finding a future expansion plan released by blizzard about 5 years ago and that there were alot of expansions planned, up to lvl 120-130 if i remember correct. Its very old info and may be incorrect but i think thats why they are taking it in smaller leaps so you dont have to gain 998 lvls in the final expansion to reach max lvl x]

You will be able to go to 100 and that's it. most rpgs only go up to 99, 100 will be a special level with teh epicness feeling of vanilla wow.

Because can you imagine starting a new character and having to hit 100 in the next expansion and 110 the one after?

Would get very boring.

Because they had 3 expansions left till lvl 100 so 5+5+10 = lvl 100 in 3 expensions after wotlk

If we consider our levels mattering, At level 100 we will have killed Arthas, Deathwing, Azhara, Ragnaros, Illidan, Kil jaden +++. We are really bad-ass heroes, We will eventually become as powerful as the foes we once fought before. To kill Sargeras will require a extreme amount of power and experience for our heroes

How can you guarantee that they will stop releasing a product that gives them so much money? Past lvl 100 might feel strange, but people will play w/e happens. Don't tell me the first time you heard about lvl 85 it didn't feel strange. Everyone flipped out but they're still playing.

Lol I think it was ghostcrawler who said this but...
He said something about 10 levels seeming like to much and 5 being shorter and better. Since they looked back at BC and WOTLK. You can get to level 85 in about 16 hours from 80 if it were 90 then it would take a lot longer which people don't want.
There is an upcoming expansion def and then hints to even another after that. they could easily get it to lvl 100 off those...

Erm guys, it's allready settled as i understood, there are two more xpack for WOW before next MMO, next one from 85-90 and last one from 90-100, but we dont have too many informations yet, beside some speculations..
