BioWare will ban you from a Single Player product.

    http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/to...9941/1#6460241

Check this shit out. Some dude said something bad on a forum about Dragon Age 2. BioWare respond by negating his access to his own copy of Dragon Age 2, a single player game he recently bought for 50 euros.

I cannot believe that shit even flys in a court of law. It's somewhat understandable in online games where your behaviour can affect other people around you, but to be banned from a single player game only you will play, alone, in your own time offline and have purchased with your own money, for a negative comment on a forum, wow. It's pathetic in my opinion.

Your guys thoughts on this ? Imagine being banned from Starcraft 2 OFFLINE mode for a negative comment about it on wow forums. Shit's crazy imo.

edit: I was under the impression after reading the link that he couldn't install his game because it requires an online activation to do so and he's banned from online. However, after reading some of these replies here, I may have read into it wrong; I'm actually a little confused what exactly the guy can and can't do right now and admittedly might have jumped to some conclusions, I'm not even too sure at this point, but nevermind. Be that as it may, it's still an interesting circumstance that the guy is in, and leads to wonders where we might be with such features in the future.

Mod Edit: Please note that this post is misinformed, slightly. You can still play single-player offline without logging in to your EA account. - Simca

it was only for 72h though.
but still, having to active your SINGLE PLAYER OFFLINE GAME through any online program is at best, retarded.
if you buy an offline single player game, you should be able to play it without internet connection or even an account for that matter.
jesus, where we are going to..
World PvP and how it stands/standed.
World PvP isn't meant to be balanced, fair nor honorable. It's meant to be brutal, relentless, deadly.. and it's the survival of the fittest. It's a fight where everything goes and you use anything you can to survive and win. It's War.. a World of Warcraft where only the best survive!

    you can play offline?

He was banned/suspended off "Bioware Social", which incidentally means he couldn't activate his game. It wasn't a ban aimed at his game, but a bad side effect (that they should probably fix).

I'd not actually noticed it was only 72/hr when I read it.

It's still pretty bad though. The online activation is one thing on its own, nevermind being able to get locked out from it for 3 days just because of something you said they didn't like. And they wonder why so many people pirate ...

    yes moaradin, seems you can

At the same time, it helps companies fight against piracy (although hardly foolproof). Dual-edged sword.

And they wonder why so many people pirate ...
So they don't have to pay?

Things like this will just drive the players to download the crack for it and crack their legit copy.

On the flip side, if blizzard started giving out 24h bans to anyone who trolls / non-contructive posts/flames on the blizzard official forums I think the quality of posts would skyrocket and perhaps the vast majority of the "vocal" community would stop being a bunch of children like they are now.

If you have a choice between paying for a game and not being able to play it, or not paying for a game and being able to play it, how many people will actually choose the former?

I support companies trying to protect their products, but at the same time I'm not going to buy a game whose anti-piracy protection measures inhibit my ability to enjoy the game.

Imadraenei, that's not a valid argument as they can so easily be cracked anyway, and they can't aim at players with internet only. Some have limited internet, others might be using laptops at random places without internet. They cannot aim to fight piracy through online account activation. That's more then retarded if they did it. They should fight it through gamecode. Which is 100% impossible as sometime, someone, somewhere, will crack it.

As someone said earlier, it appears to have been an oversight, because he was not purposely banned from the game. You can A) bitch and moan, then just steal everything. B) be reasonable and bring up the problem since it's something that should be fixed.

People freak out and lose their minds over the dumbest crap.

Hence why I said that it was hardly foolproof. At the same time, what other choices do they have? Companies have a right to prevent their products from being stolen, so what do you propose? It used to be that you'd have games asking you questions that required the manual to answer. (Amusingly, one text adventure wouldn't tell you that you'd answered incorrectly until near the end where you would meet an unavoidable death.)

Fucking disgusting. As if EA wasn't bad enough murderin gthe C&C franchise, they pull shit like this? And Bioware just submits?

Bullshit I say, and as a gamer since I was five years old, seventeen years ago this shit utterly fucking disgusts me.

This obviously needs stressed again as people are ignoring it.

The idiot got banned, and then couldn't activate his game. For less than 72 hours.

Lesson is: even being an anonymous douche on the interwebs can have more than 0 accountability for actions.

It's a perfectly reasonable freak out, if shit like this wasn't just an oversight, it would be massive cause for concern. Stop trying to be so fucking above it all and realise that. There was nothing in that thread that indicated that it was a mistake, and the Bioware post directly contradicts the idea that it was a mistake.

However almost every "modern" piracy protection affects the average player in a negative way more than the pirate.
But your duty to Azeroth is not yet complete. More is demanded of you... a price the living cannot pay.

lol its not a big deal. It sounds more like a bug since he couldn't activate the game because he was banned.
