    2012 Republican Candidates

Just out of curiosity... Who would YOU say is your favorite Republican candidate for the upcoming 2012 elections and why? Please do your best to refrain from excessive trolling. Some of the POTENTIAL candidates include Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee, and Chris Christie. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions!

The Republican Party is going to have to pull over the clown mobile and get a serious candidate that can appeal to independent voters and this means that nobody currently running is going to stand a chance. The most intriguing candidate in my mind is Huntsman, he has some serious credentials, seems to have his damn sanity in tact, is presentable, etc... The problem for him is the problem for everybody in the Republican Party right now and that is they co-opted the Tea Party and wound up with some crazy mutha f****'s that represent their base. 2012 is not going to be a win for Republicans at the top, it just isn't.

The only one who has a serious chance at winning the general, Romney, has no shot at winning the primary.

    Gogo Tea Party.

Problem is the US is HIGHLY conservative. It doesn't feel like it up in Mass but down south and out in the mid west Fox news isn't something to joke about, it's the truth.

I don't have a favorite republican just yet.. Ron Paul is ok. As far as I've read though.. running this early is just a waste of money.

Somewhat. The US does identify slightly more as conservative, but when polled on individual issues we're moderate to moderate left.

Mike Huckabee definitely. Romney is no good since he did Romneycare in Massachusetts. I don't trust him because of that.

Part of the problem with the republican party right now is the three-legged stool is broken. Traditionally, the GOP is comprised of 3 factions working together: the religious wing, the small government wing, and the military wing. In modern times, the small government wing seems to be attacking the religious wing. We're losing sight of the goal - that the common enemy is the democrats. Huckabee normally would be the guy, but with the small government types attacking the religious wing, he's diminished somewhat.

Hopefully republicans can put all their differences aside and work together to beat Obama. But the only person who can really do that is Huckabee.

The Tea Party types HATED John McCain because he was a phony as it was. McCain's language was to fight against the "special interests" and the "money in Washington", which was code speak for fighting against corporations. That means he was actually a democrat. A phony. If the GOP nominates another phony in Romney, that might be enough to tear the republican party apart as the ones who are wise will go form their own party based on real conservative principles.

Bush was a moderate was it was with his debt spending. Conservatives don't believe in debt spending, but put up with it from him. Bush's domestic policy was massive government expansion. Then they nominate a democrat for president in McCain. If they follow that up with nominating ROMNEY, who pushed socialized medicine, I'll definitely leave the GOP. Its pointless if they won't fight for conservative principles.

You know it shows how messed up the GOP and the right is these days when they won't vote for someone because of a wildly successful and bipartisan bill.

Most of the north if not all is liberal. south except california is conservative, while middle seems to be divided.

Even the south is less and less conservative in areas like the SW with increasing hispanic populations.

He is in the small government wing of the GOP. In the past, he was in the Libertarian party, and in fact was their nominee for president a few years ago.

I like how you point out that those three branches of the republican party have to band together against the democrats. It's true, other than a common enemy, they really have little reason to belong to the same party. Going to be interesting to see how this unfolds. Probably will reveal alot about how the GOP's policies and strategy change post-Bush.

I believe in small government. I believe we can have cheap, affordable health care for all, but only if government is not involved. This is a non-starter. Obamacare and Romneycare have to go.

It's sad that I have to say that I've never voted *for* anyone.

Two party system is broken/a house divided, etc.

Unfortunately the people that would make the best candidates won't run. Their respective states are better off for it, but damn.
Actually, Mr. Lennon, I CAN imagine a world with no hatred, religion, war, or violence.
I can also imagine attacking such a world, because they would never see it coming.

The legal hispanic population is the fastest growing group.

Well that's false. Plenty of countries have government run health programs that are effective and affordable, and Massachusetts is showing how we can do it here. What you have here is a dedication to ideology over practicality, which may play well in arm chair politics, but isn't something the people who have to make decisions can do.

obama is getting a second term, there no point talking about republicans - the republicans dont even have respect for there voters when they keep putting forward cartoon charactors for election - i mean sarah palin.... donald trump?? who do they think we are, donald trump for president?> please

obama got osama, the metropolitan areas will vote obama - the ethnic groups - the lefties, the liberals, the progressives, the intelligent, the well traveled, the well cultured, the educated, - will all vote obama

the republicans - the rich, the uneducated, as you can see, obama has more core groups voting for him
