Was talking to a friend about Dead by Daylight earlier and they were interested but asked 'how toxic is it?' which in and of itself says something about the expectations we set up for randoms in online games i suppose. But it did make me think about the absolute worst experiences i've had in games. Destiny has always been pretty infamous for a dogshit community. The "i'm not going to do anything, thanks for the carry lel" sort of players but personally if you can ignore them that never really comes off as "TOXIC" toxic. Something i equate beyond rudeness to making a game unplayable.
For my money the most toxic group of assholes i've had the misfortune of running into is the Rainbow Six Siege userbase. The game has friendly fire and so 99 times out of 100 i can go "its been a few months, maybe the devs solved it" and instantly load in and die as some screamer streamer meme queen just killed his own team and is screeching to 'check out my epic rage montages on youtube!' before getting kicked or leaving. This is so common i cannot honestly recommend anyone buys the game and would instead attempt to dissuade them from doing so. Its so bad i cannot imagine how bad the numbers are for new player retention when their first experience is so extremely likely to be bad.
People have screamed and pleaded with the devs to do something but for reasons i cannot fathom never have. So the game continues its steady decline in reputation as more and more people try it, experience the team killer simulator 2k18 gameplay for a few seconds before being kicked back to the menu, and its a genuine shame because mechanically the game is fantastic and there are no other door kicking swat style games around anymore. All because of a userbase that is monumentally far more bad than good.
But thats just me. Whats the worst userbase you have ever run into? has it outright ruined a game for you?
