On topic. While I imagine there will be a bit of Grrrl powah, the set photos look like it’s a fairly serious film, but a fairly Male dominated cast. It’s a female lead, sure... but it’s not ghostbusters levels.

I imagine marvel will get it right and strike a nice balance. They've done a pretty good job in the past of not going overboard with the cheese and hitting that tone of superhero "powar" but also having humor and charm while doing it.

True, true. Their record kinda speaks for itself. Some of the power levels in the early films were a bit off (looking at you, early Thor films), but it feels like they’ve learnt their lesson now, and if they can avoid going TOO pushy with the Grrl Powah (which I have with they will), it should be alright.

I don't think the actual film will be too bad, but the marketing might be. Whenever they release stuff on the talkshows, it feels like they're trying to advertise to non-fans in a tone-deaf way. Like a bunch of suits sitting in a meeting "How do we let women know this movie is female-friendly?" "well, I mean, chicks like GMA and the View right?" "Sure, they watch it while they're doing the housework, what a great idea!!!"

But, maybe it's just me. I do think the movie will follow the marvel-formula and avoid overtly sexist stuff.

Isn't Carol's best friend in the film a single African American mother/pilot and one of her colleagues the mother of Miss Marvel?

Her best friend is Photon's mom. If one of her colleagues is also the mother of Miss Marvel that'll be fun.

Yeah could also be Photon's mom, think I got two mixed up. The other supporting female is part of the Kree gang (think she's a doctor or some shit).

You may not be far wrong there. I mean, even the tag line on the EW magazine was pushing it, and that was basically the first piece of promo material...

I’m sure the film will be fairly generic marvel fare, can’t really go that far wrong. But the adverts might be a trifle annoying

I think the movie will be great, but only if they let her break the brainwashing monotone Kristen Stewart acting shtick in like 5 minutes. If it's 80% of the movie and then she gets better at the end....this movie will be draining. Also pretty shit that I know the whole plot of the movie just from this trailer. She was experimented on by Kree and removed her humanity of sorts, became a warrior and possibly fought with Nova Corps, Skrull invasion has been going on and now she is going to stop it, she regains her connection to Earth and emotions, then she poofs back to space until beeped by Nick Fury in time for Avengers 4.

Even without full post processing, her powers look awesome though.
