Being an outsider, I only know the extreme stereotypes.
So to me, this choice reads as "extremely racist and everything-phobic rednecks" versus "millitant vegans, stoners and surferbro's".
    Looking marvelous in velvet.

Sounds like Texans are the Belgians of the States. More properly: Wallons.. jesus if you saw them drive around you'd get scared.

Texas or california? Can I pick my pro awesome god tier level province of Brabant? Best region in the world. fo' real!

Its the same for almost every place in the world, as long as you avoid big cities everywhere is nice.

I love going down to vist the states, some of the nicest people I have ever met (again outside of the big cities)

California has higher highs but lower lows. I think it's too expensive to live somewhere along the coast that would be much cheaper in a comparably nice location in another state.

. California has long way to go down to 3rd world country status.

Those crazy communists and their venture capital!

I picked California. Climate and geography are why I chose that. Not a huge fan of the hot/humid weather of the Texas area. But both are great states in different ways. I'm confident of my ability to make a good living no matter where I go, so cost of living isn't a big deal to me. If you're looking from a business owner standpoint though, I'd probably recommend Texas, as California seems saturated in some areas, and Texas is really up and coming right now.

You guys who picked based upon "politics"... you realize that 99% of that crap isn't going to affect you, right? Just mind your own business, and work hard, and things are going to be alright no matter where you live, pretty much. And I have met plenty of friendly people that are from Texas and friendly people that are from California as well.

Texas is a big state, the climate is different depending on the area you live in. Most of my family is in the north part of Texas but I have family all the way from the middle, to the south. Where I live we have high humidity, even though it's usually hotter in the part of Texas my family is from I prefer their weather because it's easier to deal with high heat because of the lower humidity.

That’s something that a lot of people overlooked when they talked about the high income tax in California.

I hate paying taxes as much as the next person.

I think the state could have utilized my tax money better and more efficiently.

However, they do get it right sometimes also.

Such as 31 public universities and hundreds of local colleges, free tuition for kids from families making less than 80k, and tuition cap for families making between 80k - 140k. High education in CA provides a path for upward mobility and acts as great equalizer.

Money Magazine Best Colleges For Your Money 2018 - 4 CA public universities in the top 10 and 21 in the top 100.

CollegeNet Social Mobility Index ranking for colleges - California State Universities and Colleges dominate the top ranking.

Venture capital, startups and unicorns aside, don’t people wonder why so many non-Californian companies have their R&D division in California?

To name a few - Amazon, Microsoft, Honda, Toyota, DowDupont, B of A, JP Morgan, Canon, Exxon (they have an experimental kelp farm in San Diego), Alibaba, Huawei, Roche, Novartis, etc.

As for manufacturing, here is a map of 500 largest manufacturing firms in the US for 2018. CA is no. 1 and TX no. 2.

I was born in California and still live here. I would be open to moving to Texas for the right opportunity despite the weather.

I do not know any state in the Nation that within one day you could be at the beach, world class skiing, or redwood forests. Very unique and beautiful.

People should visit California and not learn second hand about our state. Every State has issues, and ours are just overblown by the media and/or haters.

Just ignore people that say things like Comifornia, I wish that state fell into the ocean, coders are not "real" americans etc etc

There is no drought in California. The snow pack has broken records in 2017 & 2019.

Mammoth Mountain will be open until July 4th this year.

    It is cyclical though.

As someone who lived in Cali, I do agree that people need to visit.. but also that goes two ways of course. When I visited Austin from Sacramento.. hands down no way haha - Austin is far superior to SAC TOWN mac town any single day - BUT I did enjoy the hip hop and local rap from the YAY compared to TX hip hop.. although I listen to Deep Dupstep/Electronic music these days.. I still did really enjoy the music scene in CA.. ANYWAY Everyone deserves a fair shake - I don't think Cali is bad at all: I just find FOR ME that TX just fits every single check mark - even if some places in TX can be pretty racist - I just ignore those people because they will die out eventually <3

Bigup Cali fam, Bigup TX Fam

Lived in CA, figured I would be accepted for my bisexuality (compared to Tenessee prior). Marched during college about being broke, woke up and started just focusing on me and suddenly started feeling judged and excommunicated for doing so.

I'd go TX if I move anywhere again. Seems like a lot of folk cannot care about my business too much there.

meh, there's texas and then there's austin...i live in the latter and i'd pick this over cali but if i had to live anywhere in texas not austin, i'd probably pick cali

I always thought CA was open to any sexuality sorry to hear that

I enjoy austin a lot, but I get it if someone dislikes austin. The reason I like it is because you get a mixture of everything here: you like guns, food, and nice people - I've been here for 9 years: It's been non-stop awesome ever since (for me at least lol)

Lived in Texas then moved to Connecticut. So I can't really give California an absolute no as I haven't been there. But I would return to Texas in a heartbeat. The food sucks ass here and it's winter for way too long. I miss not having to shovel snow as it would melt by the end of the day in Texas. I have heard good things about Cali food and weather, so maybe I'd like it.

Same as where I was born, Sweden. We have some of the highest taxes in the world yet was somehow voted best country in the world to do business in a few years back. The conservative model has not really changed for a few thousand years and they were miserable years. Enter a bit of socialism, trade unions and free public education and 150 years later we have done more than the previous 5000 years combined.

Austin is like the red-headed stepchild of Texas. I have never heard of a state capital suing it's own state - Austin Formally Sues Texas Over Anti-Immigrant Senate Bill 4.

I like Austin. It is very similar to San Diego, with worse traffic, not-so-tall mountains, and man-made lakes instead of the Pacific Ocean.

blatant trolling of 2 states. OP says he would live in neither but asks the question, why bother trolling?

California. More moderate temperatures, I have a lot of friends in California and I generally dislike Texas.
