Yeah, starting to see the weakness of relying on the E.O. yet? Hell, even Trump mentioned this in his campaign.
Yeah, EOs should be something that the president uses to help out the country when congress can't act fast enough, like say during a major pandemic.

Transporation... I am a believer in a public free transportation system funded by the state. So complaining about transportation... just seems silly. I mean... transportation is part of the thing that screws working people over due to how expensive it can be.

Using that as an example of why people should be paid less, and not an example of why we need affordable or free transportation paid for by taxes... is you missing the heart of the issue.
If you can't afford housing and food on $15.87 an hour in Mississippi maybe just simplify your lifestyle and stop living beyond your means. People making 15 aren't "well off" by any means, but those sure as hell aren't poverty wages like people that are actually still working are making.

Look, I'm all for progressive taxation and helping the working class right now, and then maybe someday having a generous UBI that allows people a comfortable life style without working, I just don't think now is the time for that. Unemployment should be enough to get by on, not more and not less.

I figure it was when the first person figured out how to use a wheel as a means of locomotion. "Now is not the time to try and change things. People could get run over you know. Why would they need a wheel anyway, they have 2 legs."

Very cool, Biden's team is planning a legislative package with pathway to citizenship for 11 million immigrants .

This puts Biden waaay to the left of any party in Europe on immigration. I think Flemmish and Walooonian Greens would rather choke on a Doner Kebab than grant citizenship to 11 million immigrants.

We still need most people to work. Automation isn't there yet. 5-10 years from now, maybe, now no. Especially not when looking at those who are on unemployment right now, that is mostly going to be people in service industries, and those aren't being automated any time soon.

That's all well and good, but your gripe has been targeted at the temporary stimulus and not at the corporations paying shitty wages.

That's nice, curious what the fuck this has to do with increased public assistance or even minimum wage since neither actually result in appreciable unemployment spikes. Rofl.

Then again this follows such gems as claiming "15.87 is far too much for someone living in Mississippi" when a living wage in Holmes County, the state's poorest, is around $10 an hour which is still higher than the current federal minimum.

Some real big "I run a shitty business wherein if I pay my three employees $3 more an hour I will literally go bankrupt. Please listen to me as I tell you how to run the economy" energy in the thread right now. Sksksks.

American agriculture would probably collapse without those immigrants. Sure you could send some coal miners to go pick beans but they wouldn't be enough.

The minimum wage debate is stupid

Why force a national standard on all states and not just let every state decide how much the minimum wage ought to be xdd

A 15$/h might work for one state but it might be too much for another, or not, but like that sort of stuff should be a state issue not a federal one

Coal miners are famously resistant to learning new careers, hence the decades of corporate welfare to prop up a shitty industry.

You are aware that people live in counties with higher costs of living than Holmes County, Mississippi, right?

That aside, it's a contradiction to bitch about how little your wife is making and then saying that increased unemployment benefits are bad because the labor market isn't a free market unless participation is optional by definition, rofl.

The way socialists keep having to explain capitalism to capitalists.

Expecting corporations at large to ever do the right thing just for the sake of it is pretty naive. My gripe is that the government is still continuing to focus on the unemployed while essential workers get only lip service.

We don't let states decide for the same reason we don't let them decide who gets to be a citizen anymore.

Hundreds of billions of dollars in proposed funding to keep businesses open even accounting for things like hazard pay is hardly 'lip service', by American standards at least. At least read the legislative packages you're whinging about. Rofl.

It is quite amazing just how many people essentially are fine with in function being serfs.

"My Landlord which is part of a conglomerate that owns the company I work for pays me just enough so I can have $10 left over after traveling to work and paying rent. Nevermind they bought this place after tons of foreclosures for bargain basement prices!"

He hasn't been paying attention to what the Socialdemokratiet and their leftist coalition is doing in Denmark. They're exiling as many immigrants as possible, and forcing the rest into even larger ghettos.

Making a red/brown alliance over hating immigrants just isnt progressive. Their version of Class Reductionist socialism is doomed to fail.
