No, Kuro no Kiseki is the second game after Cold Steel IV.

    Liberl Kingdom arc
    • 1. Sora no Kiseki/Trails in the Sky: First Chapter
    • 2. Sora no Kiseki/Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter
    • 3. Sora no Kiseki/Trails in the Sky the 3rd

    Crossbell State arc
    • 4. Zero no Kiseki/Trails from Zero
    • 5. Ao no Kiseki/Trails to Azure

    Erebonian Empire arc
    • 6. Sen no Kiseki/Trails of Cold Steel
    • 7. Sen no Kiseki II/Trails of Cold Steel II
    • 8. Sen no Kiseki III/Trails of Cold Steel III
    • 9. Sen no Kiseki IV/Trails of Cold Steel IV
    • 10. Hajimari no Kiseki

    Calvard Republic arc
    • 11. Kuro no Kiseki

There is no word on a Hajimari localization yet. Hajimari released in Japan last year.

@Val the Moofia Boss Thanks Val, I was confused there for a second. I do not have a PlayStation so Hajimari no Kiseki is not playable for me but it seems there is a pc release for it this summer. If only I was more confident in reading Kanji. Well voice acting should do for me. And I am surprised they are already working on the 11th game. Wow. All the more reason to be hyped. I am seriously wondering how these will all conclude.

You are probably getting mixed up with the Chinese Steam ports, which are different from the English Steam ports.

I've never heard of any PC ports of Trails games with the Japanese text retained. Maybe it's a feature of the Chinese ports? IDK

Just a little hope. I love this series so much. It would be way too painful for me to not be able to play them.
maybe on Japanese steam store. Some games are exclusive. Like the latest gundam game. Forgot its name, you can see it on Japanese store but eu store does not have it.

HOly shit its true! I checked it hopelessly yesterday and there was no date given. I was expecting a summer release. God damn I am so happy now. Thank you! There is no price tag but it is a case of shut up and take my money for me.

If you're buying the Steam version, don't rush to buy it. When Cold Steel 3 came out on Steam, there was a discount option for like a week, but it was also possibly to buy it for the default price. Make sure to get the discounted version if you can.

Would I miss alot from skipping the Trails in the Sky games? A few people who's opinions I trust of JRPGs love the Trails games, but getting into them from the beginning seems like a lot.

    Not really.

You'll be fine starting at Trails of Cold Steel 1. Everything you need to know about the story of the Cold Steel games is given to you in the Cold Steel games. Characters from other games make guest appearances in the Cold Steel games, but they are not the focus of the story.

If I wanted to go back to the Trails in the Sky games would Cold Steel spoil those games at all?

Cold Steel has no major plot spoilers for Trails in the Sky, aside from the identity of a party member (but that was a minor plot point). They just tell you "two years ago there was a crisis in the kingdom of Liberl" and that's it.

Cool, thanks for the info Val!

The actual problem with going back to Sky after Cold Steel is the Sky gameplay is so dated and the combat is boring as hell in comparison. Crossbell is easier to go back to because they somewhat refined the combat system by that point but Sky 1 especially is pretty bad combat that hasn't aged well.

You know what, actually it was really difficult for me to like the combat in cold steel after sky series. Got used to it ofc and enjoyed it nonetheless. I am more of a retrorpg guy I guess. no complaints though, the game is great. I put like 114 hours to sky 1.

It would be nice if it did. I'm ok with that. (Series ending in 2031)

    Kuro no Kiseki battle gameplay

Seems that you can switch between action button mashing gameplay, or regular turn based. Not sure how to feel about the camera auto locking on to your target while moving the characters around during turn based combat.

    Characters

    • Van Ark Ride (age 24), main character, uses a "Shooting Sword" called a "Stan Caliber".
    • Agnes Claudel (age 16) first year student at Aramis High School). Her Great-grandfather died for some reason (seems to imply it was nefarious?) and she doesn't want to talk to the police. Asks Van to employ her. Uses an Orbal Staff.
    • Aaron Wei (age 19) playboy from Touhou district. Leads a gang called "the bloody youth". Dual wields swords and mastered one of the three major Kenpo "Tsukika-ryu". Might be an actor (stage or movie?). Also made a lot of moeny at a casino. Is called "Kirinji" in some circles. Might be connected to a criminal syndicate called Kurotsuki.
    • Feri Al-Fayed (age 13) from Jaeger corps Kurga/
Gurkha. His Jaeger corps disappeared on him so he's looking for him (so basically he is a genderflipped Fie expy?). Uses an assault rifle. Edit: Gematsu is saying that Feri is a she, not a he. So Feri is a straight up Fie clone?

Also, the website lists an unrevealed character as "age 69". Hopefully that elderly character will be a party member. I can't think of any JRPG characters that old except for Rosine from Granblue Fantasy. (NOT counting "thousand year old immortals" like Kaim from Lost Odyssey). Someone mentioned it could be Yun-Ka Fai, which would be cool.

Also, starting to feel sad for Elaine already. With Agnes now confirmed to be the main heroine, the odds of her winning the Van-bowl are grim. It's going to be Kloe all over again. The childhood friendzone curse strikes again! At least if there was a harem, there might have been hope, but apparently Kondo said they were dropping it, so there is no hope.

    Calvard locations

    • Edith - capital of Calvard, has a prestigious high school (possibly an equivalent to Thors?) and has a subway (presumably this will be the fast travel between districts)
    • Eastern town (Longlai?)
    • Seaport city
    • Entertainment city near a desert oasis lake

One that comes to mind for me is Rowen from Tales of Xillia who is 62 or 63 depending if you are playing Xillia 1 or 2.
