What about the people who were trying to do something while the server crashed? Were they laughing? Did they think it was funny to have their service interrupted while they were trying to do whatever they were doing?
Swifty did not stop the stream/mute zybak or make any attempt at all to tell his viewers to not crash the server.
I laughed at the screen shots of these "protests" bit sad that they do that really, making things harder on other players just because the person they are fanboying over got banned.
Not a fan of Swifty myself nor do I hate him, he's just another player to me that posts vids of PvP (Which I have no interest in) and gets sponsorship to do so, how ever when you are someone like him who is quite a big WoW celebrity and has a lot of fans can you really expect an event he and his guild host to go smoothly and well mannered? I could see something like this happening... normally does when you get certain players/guilds who are very well known hosting events and inviting fans to join in, you'd have to be pretty blind to not see it happening.
He may not have directly crashed the server but he did invite a lot of players to this event and not everyone is going to act mature etc etc.
I doubt Blizzard will loose many subs over this as well because to be honest if you're going to quit because one person who you do not know as a person or in real life got banned then that's pretty pathetic.
People need to chill out and stop being so over dramatic about this, other players have probably been perma banned for much lighter offences and there is much you can do about it when you agree to a ToS that states quite clearly that Blizzard can ban who they want, when they want and no matter the reason, of course there is no proper freedom of speech... it is a game after all, one owned by a company that you pay for access to, you do not own part of the game by paying them.
For the Horde!
Not his fault his event crashed the server. How was he to know? People have been doing these giant events since WoW came out. Someone who has put that much time into the game and loves it that much isn't going to be some trolltard and go "lol let's crash the server, Blizz won't care."
And really, the popularity of one guy can bring enough people to crash an entire server? The hell was the limit on Darkspear?

I once had a character named "Clamslam" but Blizzard deemed it inappropriate.Retired from WoW: February 19, 2011. It was fun Blizz.

No one will probably read this as this thread is beeing spammed. Probably will get flamed for saying this, but as a fan of Swifty he could see this coming.
Swifty got banned, perma-banned from the game. Which is, in my own opinion, not even a greater punishment then Ensidia abusing Saronite Bombs in LK HC 25. They got a 72 hour ban, Swifty should get atleast the same. Swifty DID got an infraction before, where he used the haste-axe from Shadow Labs to own the last boss in Arcatraz within seconds.
I got suspended several times, if I do it a few times more I lost my account. It's that simple. People, how famous they are ( Amy Whinehouse, Simpson ) cannot stand above the law. If that was the case every celebrety could murder and go free.
if blizzard claim that 1 player is responsible for their server crash than they just admitted what bunch of lousy ppl and staff they actually are
and we pay them ...
dont care for swifty or athene, for me they are guys who play the game and enjoy making videos about their hobby, but this is really retarded game admin decision and without any respect for customers
its not our fault they are not prepared for some situations.. we pay em to fix that
This is madness.

Good! You should have seen Stormwind with all his little drooling fan boys crawling all over the place spamming the hell out of /1, /2, /s, and /y. I'm not even remotely surprised that he got nailed for it, he practically begged for people to act the way they did. I just sat in the city reporting spam for a solid 30 minutes before I could actually read any real conversation or trade in general channels.
"Sir, we are surrounded, Sir"
"Excellent, we can attack in every direction"
but the wow community will still find things to be angry about anyway,if he deserves to get banned.then ban him,if what he did doesnt deserve him to get banned then dont ban him
ive known for a long time now because of things like 1 year of endless ICC and a summer of a content patch with barely any content in it besides lol7bosses that these are some of the reasons why the community is so bitter all the time
