Well Perry refused to expand Medicaid so it's no surprise to me. The rural areas are the areas that suffer the most.
Obviously everyone as I live here...the UK provides free health care at point of service and medications that cap at $12 out of pocket cost. Canadians pay a fraction of what we do in medications. Americans pay hugely inflated costs for everything from basic services to medications. Planned Parenthood billed my insurance $1250 a few months ago, it was a 15 minute office visit where the nurse practitioner checked the position of my IUD and gave me an STD/pregnancy test. We now also have health care administrators outnumbering actual practitioners (nurses, physicians, etc) 10:1.
We pay through the nose for health care and there's no reason for it.
I will never understand how the party that champions self determination deems the right to control what goes on in ones body.
"It doesn't matter if you believe me or not but common sense doesn't really work here. You're mad, I'm mad. We're all MAD here."
The article states: "The doubling of mortality rates in a two-year period was hard to explain “in the absence of war, natural disaster, or severe economic upheaval”. .... No other state saw a comparable increase."
So something unique to Texas. Something dramatic changed there in 2011 that was not also seen in the other nearby states. That rules out climate and immigration (AZ & NM) and immigration as a cause is further ruled out by knowing that immigration rate has decreased.
So the only thing that makes sense is, "The researchers, hailing from the University of Maryland, Boston University’s school of public health and Stanford University’s medical school, called for further study. But they noted that starting in 2011, Texas drastically reduced the number of women’s health clinics within its borders." Putting some numbers on it, in 2011 women's health clinic funding was cut by 2/3 from 2010 levels and since then 82 clinics have closed which primarily served low income and rural regions according to npr.
Find it funny that the 'life' of something that is so undeveloped is more important than a living, breathing, person currently alive... pro-life people are the pinnacle of contradictory hypocrites.
Talk about missing the point. First of all the uk system is god awful. The waits are huge because as costs fall demand increases. Doctors are severely underpaid anhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auriga_(slave)d they are told where to go and what to prsctice, there is also a shortage cause, see previous point. Lived there for years, used it, wouldnt wish it on enemies. Yea some people have grest results with it but if you have anything seriously wrong with you good luck. Close family friend died of breast cancer waiting around for trestment. Thst doesnt happen in the US.
As to my quip about the cost, no "we" will not be sharing it because "we" can hardly afford our own healthcare. What you want is others to give it to you. Stop being intellectually dishonest.

The massive plurality of those who are pro-life do not think a monther should die to avoid an abortion. This is SUCH a strawman it actually makes me laugh at how stupid someone would have to be to make it as an argument.
Nah. It's a bash Texas thread. Take those facts and statistics out of here and toss them in the trash with context.
Bash bash bash baby! And then bash some Republicans too for good measure. Let's bash some white folks and move on to religious folks next. ...That is the point of this thread right?
Okay, tell us what none Texas bashing insight are we missing here?
Texas decides to go Full Pro Life Maximus, maternal mortality rates skyrocket to a degree that it makes it look like Texas was hit by an asteroid or something.
But Texas wasn't hit by an asteroid. Texas, run by Republicans decided to cut funding to maternal care facilities and write a long list of laws targeting foundations and volunteers making it impossible for them to operate.
Being called out for this epic disaster is not bashing.
I'm not seeing Texas bashing, just legit criticism. We do have a tendency to put health in the back burner unless it's an emergency. Hell we had to raise holy hell to get Perry to dip into the rainy day fund so our educators could get a paycheck one year
You are suggesting that the doubling of maternal mortality rates in a mere 6 years is a statistical fluke. It isn't. It is a statistical trend. How many women do need to die for you to admit there is a problem? 100? 200? 1600? What number is the number that would convince you that Texas has a problem?

I feel like YOU missed the entire point. We pay a premium for medications and services in the United States in comparison to even other developed countries. We can MORE than afford our own healthcare, if we stopped gouging Americans for basic health care costs. We don't need a 10:1 ratio for health care administrators to practitioners; the inefficient administration of healthcare services is another hidden healthcare cost.
Like the Epipen. Are you seriously telling me that we need to charge $500 and up for a device that costs literally pennies to make? And that is just ONE example of inflated pricing in our health care system.

I don't know why the US is so far behind the rest of the first world in some regards... This is so strange. The wealthiest, the most influential country in the world - can't afford universal healthcare and free education, something even some extremely poor third world countries have? I just don't get it.
