It just feels like pandering when you practice tokenism and call it diversity. There isn't exactly anything wrong with it in the context of the final product of the movie, it can cut both ways depending on your point of view. Prefer to let the movies stand for themselves, tbh. People make a big deal about casting, like skin colour and gender ratios actually matter. It doesn't inherently make a movie good or bad. The messaging in the movie itself can be polarising, but pretty much everything can be these days.

Also the Empire was certainly modelled after fascists initially. The core vs fringe became a bigger part of it later on in the lore. The core worlds were rich, had majority human populations, were big production and tech centres, etc. The Empire left most of the fringe worlds to rot in poverty and crime, except the ones with valuable resources, which were subjugated and controlled. This is what started the rebellion.
