You know, that's an interesting point. Harvard Law just doesn't put out dumb people. So she's smart, but she's also lying for Trump, on a daily basis. So why? Why are genuinely smart people backing and even worse shrilling for Team Deplorable? It has to be the part of the GOP that is out for itself, material/status gain.

I wonder if there are those with "smart" degrees that are so deep in the kool aid they actually believe what they are saying.
Because it's much more lucrative to be a grifter.

I'm not saying there aren't smart, competent, great lawyers from Harvard - it's the dream of most nerdy kids to go to Harvard or Yale - but they have a significant portion of that greasy layer of incompetence.

For example, my sister went to the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy in Philly. She was at Wharton, at the same time as Ivanka Trump. She was, in fact, an academic mentor for Ivanka's class. She said Ivanka never showed up to anything, was more interested in being seen at the right parties, and still flew through her time at UPenn to get her degree and the "prestige" associated with it.

The Wharton School at UPenn, of course, being the alma mater of one Donald J. Trump. And my father. Thank God my dad died in 2014, he'd be fucking furious at a Trump Presidency.

This is anecdotal and much hearsay, but a tweet I read was someone who debated her multiple times on CNN and one day they were in the elevator I guess she confessed and bragged about how stupid Trump followers were and this was easy money.

Now this is hearsay, but does back up what I believe most who shill for Trump are nothing but grifters. They know Trump people and I will say the right are angry and emotional people. Fox and others have been feeding on their fear and hate for long time. So these people know how to con people and its easy money

The number of reported coronavirus cases at a Tyson Food plant in Indiana soared to nearly 900 this week as fears of a potential collapse in the meat and agriculture supply chains amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Cool, so I guess I'm gonna be a vegetarian for a while. Because these folks are being ordered back to work without any additional pay or protections that I'm aware of, and they're going to contaminated millions of pound of meat with the virus because Trump will enact the DPA so he can get his fucking quarter pounder with cheese, but won't do it to make sure that people have the protective equipment they need to safely do their jobs.

Man, I didn't even know who those people are. Don't read Jacobin Mag or Paste much, but not surprised these kinds of people exist because depressingly, I know quite a few of them due to my work.

After One Tweet To President Trump, This Man Got $69 Million From New York For Ventilators

So when Trump was tweeting about opening up an old GM plant to make ventilators I guess he got a reply from some Silicon Valley engineer who replied he could fill the order. The WH recommended him to NY but the order was never completed and thus canceled.

Nothing like a conman getting conned. Too bad its it the taxpayers who get screwed in the end.

They do it because of multiple clients/etc. However, it's a good way to keep specific information organized. And it looks like she's going for verbatim answers - almost literally reading approved script. And that's almost impossible to do in real life, on the spot, under that kind of pressure. She may have been ordered to read too. Who knows.

I'm not defending her, just to be clear - just explaining her behavior. She died with her opening statement.

Man, I read that when the news first broke. At the time the federal government was outright saying, "We didn't recommend this." It's interesting that it's now morphed into -

A spokesperson for the White House referred a request for comment to the office of Vice President Mike Pence, who chairs the task force. A spokesperson for Pence referred the query to FEMA. A spokesperson for FEMA said it could not speak on behalf of the White House and that it does not share information about potential suppliers.
An endless game of telephone. At least they're living up to Trump's words and nobody is taking any responsibility.

It's not that easy, I'm afraid. We tend to pool people who follow a prominent figure together, but they come as varied as any other breed of people.

You can draw a lot of parallels from Trumps administration to the Third Reich. You have a prominent figure at the helm, but they are not the one directly in charge. Of course, they issue the order, but they are being gauded on by the people behind them. In any government and political movement, there's a mix of people. You have the idealists, the ones in it for the ideology. They are both dangerous and harmless at the same time. They are easy to control and steer. They rile people up, but hold rather little power of their own. You have the goons, the muscle, the button men, the foot soldiers, the ones that blindly follow. For the Nazis, that was the SS. The most dangerous ones are the opportunists. They'll change their ideology like you and me change our underwear. They don't believe in the cause, the believe in getting the most out of it. They drape up the idealists and give them a stage, they encourage the goons. They will be the loudest supporters - and the first to drop the ideology as soon as the wind changes. For the Nazis, those were people like Himmler and Göring. They sang the song of anti-semitism, of german superiority, because it benefitted them. The second it started to collapse, Himmler tried to make firends with the west. To stay in power.

Trump is surrounded by people like that. Kushner, for example. He's been put where he is by people like that. They amass wealth and power by staying in his shadow, and take significantly less heat than he is. They are the jackasses that put the tortoise on the post, for their own gain. And I'd assume that a decent chunk of ivy-leaguers supporting Trump are just like that. Supporting him promises power, and fast. Look at the guy who bred poodles and is now spearheading the CDCs Corona-task-force. Do you think he believes in Trump? I doubt it. But he knows how to play him, which isn't hard.

It's not that the degree is worthless. People are just scumbags, and sometimes, they get a degree from an Ivy league college. Do you think Trump himself could have gotten a degree from one of these colleges? A PhD? I doubt it, even with all his cash.

Noted conspiracy theorist, owner of Infowars, and man who interviewed the President Elect of the United States of America, Alex Jones, is openly musing about dipping his toes into cannibalism.

“I’ll admit it. I will eat my neighbors,” Jones said, predicting a dystopian future plagued by food shortages.

“I won’t have to for a few years ’cause I got food and stuff ― but I’m literally looking at my neighbors now and going, ’I’m ready to hang ’em up and gut ’em and skin ’em. My daughters aren’t starving to death. I will eat my neighbors. ... I will.”

Although Jones’ admission could make neighborhood watch meetings awkward, he said he plans on gobbling “globalists” who imposed the lockdowns first.

“You think I like sizing up my neighbor?!” Jones bellowed. “I’m gonna haul him up by a chain and chop his ass up! I’ll do it! My children aren’t going hungry! I’ll eat your ass! And that’s what I want the globalists to know — I will eat your ass first!”

The White House is blocking Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key member of the administration's coronavirus task force, from testifying on Capitol Hill next week, according to a spokesman from a key House committee.
    LOL? for real...
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

Gagging Fauci is proof of dishonesty.

EDIT: We'll see if he testifies as asked or not, but, it might be interesting if he's told he can't but does anyhow. If he withholds life-saving information just because Trump's widdle feewings were hurt, then he stops getting any respect.

White House blocks Fauci from testifying before Congress

Democrats had invited Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of the White House coronavirus task force, to appear Wednesday before an Appropriations subcommittee examining the Trump administration's response to the pandemic, which has killed more than 64,000 people in the United States.

Evan Hollander, a spokesman for the panel, said Friday that Democrats "have been informed by an administration official that the White House has blocked Dr. Fauci from testifying."

Moments later the White House affirmed its position, saying that it would be "counterproductive" to have officials involved in efforts to defeat the novel coronavirus testify at congressional hearings at this time but that the administration would work with Congress to make them available “at the appropriate time.”

"While the Trump Administration continues its whole-of-government response to COVID-19, including safely opening up America again and expediting vaccine development, it is counter-productive to have the very individuals involved in those efforts appearing at Congressional hearings," White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere said in a statement. "We are committed to working with Congress to offer testimony at the appropriate time."

Next week’s House hearing was scheduled by Rep. Rosa DeLaura (D-Conn.), who heads the Appropriations subcommittee with jurisdiction over health care issues. The meeting aims to examine the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic, even while the House remains in recess. House lawmakers are not expected back in Washington before May 11.

Absent Fauci, the sole witness slated to testify is Tom Frieden, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additional witnesses are possible.

After the White House blocked Fauci's participation, DeLauro and Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), the Appropriations Committee chairwoman, issued a statement that avoided a direct mention of the controversy, but stressed the importance of providing the public with "a clear-eyed view" of what tactical steps federal policymakers are taking to contain the coronavirus and expedite a national recovery.

    @Bakis for link

Yeah this is some shady shit. In one way I can't blame all of Trump from only my living history with Presidents I see they abuse this alot. Bush was horrible and Obama had Attorney Holder not testify of the Fast and Furious (I know, I know).

So yeah this is incredible power that I can't believe Congress cowers and lets the President get away with. Umm the part of Congress is to check the President's power and have more open to the public by its Representatives asking questions. I guess technically Fauci is part of some Trump task force but again bullshit when this is about the public health of our country.

Obama protecting a large-scale criminal investigation like that at least could be understood, whether you think that's enough to block testimony is up to you.

Fauci is due to convey life-saving information about medicine and supplies. There is no defending that.

“All of a sudden you become a wealthy guy, you’re a famous guy, then you become president. And people that you’ve never seen, that you’ve never heard of, make charges,” Trump said Friday in an interview with conservative radio host Dan Bongino, adding that he was “sticking up” for Biden in a way. “I would just say to Joe Biden, ‘Just go out and fight it.’ ”

Interesting strategy for the president, instead of doing the faux concern trolling about believing woman that conservative media did, he instead used it as an opportunity to talk about how unfairly hes treated and sort of defending biden?

"Only" 1,897 deaths on the 1st of May bringing us to a total of 65,753. New cases increased for the 4th day in a row to 36,007. New York continues to top the chart and now Illinois is making regular appearances at number 2, swapping with New Jersey. Texas is also creeping up there with their 4th or 5th straight day of increases. 8th overall total new cases yesterday.

As was expected, big cities are still being hit hard and now suburban and rural areas are starting to see an uptick--just in time for some lockdowns to be relaxed.
There are now over 900k confirmed ACTIVE cases. 4 days ago that was 812k, so, places are opening up even as the number of confirmed infected increases.

    Good luck.

Man, I'm so glad CA locked this shit down early and is doing "alright" with this. All those protesters like the ones in Sacramento today are really trying to shit things up for us, and I'm not pleased with their shenanigans. They're not the silly kind, and those are the only kinds of shenanigans I like.
