There's a reason the US operates that way, is a human right of the UN, even goes back to Roman days. Innocents shouldn't suffer from an accusation alone. Can you imagine someone accusing you and you lose your career? Maybe that doesn't matter much to you if you don't have much of a career, but for people who have invested so much of their life to it, it means a lot.
I'll add that people who make false accusations don't really have much to lose, even if they're somehow proven wrong, they aren't going to get the same punishment as being accused of something in public. Like does anyone even know what happened with the Aziz accuser? No one gives a shit probably, doubt she faced any reprecussions for that in her work life.
