I think you are being too bitter about this, I mean how far back would you go? I paid for my tuition out of pocket for college decades ago. Should I get that money back with interest now?

Man, it's rare to see posts so full of shit. Then again, you're the self-admitted shitposter that still rants about socialist boogeymen long after Bernie lost the primary.

Except, if you've been reading, that's not really it. I suggested that we should help people who already payed off these mandatory expensive payments, in addition to helping the people who were still struggling. I also said the system needs to be reworked.

At no point did I say "we can't help former victims so we shouldn't help current ones". Your description of my position is flawed.

your argument focuses on inaction until you want a specific other issue addressed concerning people who've paid off their loans... you even brought up the "fairness" of it...

Well, then I think I better back away from that argument, because after reading these pages I don't think I support that anymore.

    That's not sarcasm.

Okay. This is the benefit of talking when people disagree.

Onto how to pay for it. Raise taxes or just accept the debt. It’s only like a trillion something.

I had suggested taxes earlier, but maybe not during the pandemic so much.

The people who should pay more taxes are doing quite well and thriving generally.

Well my suggestion was to tax businesses who require college degrees. There's bad optics on doing that now.

Over a quarter century ago in 1994, I clerked on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The number of circuit judges has remained the same since 1990, when US population was 249 million. Our population today is over 330 million.

It is time to increase circuit (and district) judges.

Just FYI, Ted Lieu is progressive Congressman from California.

Now this tweet to me gives good reason to expand the court. You know what? The Republicans hear this they will run with it.
Democrats are the best! I will never ever question a Democrat again. I LOVE the Democrats!

The Republicans just pack them... and then stop democrats from ever placing seats.

Hey, I'm all for overhauling the lifetime appointment judicial system, that's a load of nonsense anyways.

But you're functionally, unintentionally, arguing for court cases to continue to be backed way the fuck up because there aren't enough judges to try them in a reasonable period of time. Which like, leaves folks in jail and shit.

More judges is a good thing, yo. And if Democrats aren't spineless fucks they'll be able to pack as well as McConnell and Republicans have shown themselves able to.

My argument is that worrying about what republicans do doesn’t matter because republicans will always rat fuck the system therefore. Fill the courts with more seats. Who gives a fuck about what republicans won’t or will do.

We have more information about Biden's upcoming immigration bill.

What it doesn't do: Instantly make every illegal immigrant a citizen. Anyone cliaming that is lying.

What it does do: Farm workers, Temporary Protected Status holders (basically refugees) and those who came over as children can apply for green cards. If they behave for three years, including paying taxes and staying on the radar, they can become citizens through the usual policy.

Everyone else needs eight years. During which, they too have to get background checks, pay taxes, and stay where the government can see them.

It is only retroactive, by which I mean, you have to prove you got here by Dec 31, 2020. Anyone showing up this year cannot benefit. Unless they are just now returning to the US, after living here for three or more years but then evicted by Trump.

it would also limit the President's power to evict a "category" of immigrants, which I would assume means race or country of origin.

The per-country caps for immigration would be raised, and also, a family all applying at once counts as one. (Spouses and children of an applicant don't count towards the cap)

My personal favorite? There's a reserve of 30,000 visas that the government can give to immigrants who were the victims of serious crimes, and who helped law enforcement. In other words, if someone is attacked for being an immigrant, they're given permission to stay.

Once again, this is not instant amnesty. This is preparing a path for people who proved they want to live here, as long as they follow the same rules as everyone else.

This feels like a massive highball, and some of the provisions will probably be stripped by the Senate GOP if it has any chance to pass.

I really don't see it passing at all without something in return, and I don't mean just removing some of the provisions.

Looks like a better version of the last immigration bill way back from ... 2007. Not perfect, but much better than the laws currently in effect.
Interesting to see how this proposal moves differently than the 2007 bill.
    • The 2007 cosponsors T.Kennedy and J.McCain are dead.
    • Progressive Senator that voted against the 2007 bill is now the Budget Chairman.
    • Lou Dobbs no longer has a TV show to rail against immigrants.
    • Rush Limbaugh, also dead.
