Oh, but how can I pathetically manufacture drama if I don't question everything current President does?
Surely, old president, the one I voted for, would have done things much different and muchly bigly better. But also don't bring up anything he handled poorly cause he's not current President!

Hmm. So presumably you were falling over yourself during the 4 years of Trump to deride him for cosying up to dictators and actually applauding them for trampling on freedoms and rights? So I could find dozens of examples of similar pearl-clutching from you in the Trump thread, when he fawned over Kim, Erdogan, Belsonaro, Putin and the like?
Why do I get the distinct impression that searching for those examples would be a snipe hunt?
Nothing less.

yeah, I don't know why Biden doesn't just push for total global domination ... what a wus!
if there's ever a world war were waged like that again, I'm pretty sure male conscription will be mandatory. I'll admit don't have much going in life so I would gladly be dragged in that if it just swept me up. It's not like I could just sign up by default in my state now.
It's why I will tell you upfront I am not a sensationalist that enjoys headline news for the sake of being loud. I genuinely want events in life that take away responsibility from certain other concerns I have. Things like war with conscription or a semi-apocalyptic event like the initial mandatory COVID lockdown and subsequent racial rioting over a year that forced/encouraged me to stay home and not interact with people (I hate humanity at large and am an introvert).
On topic: That is my explanation for why I was so eager to see how Biden would respond to Putin; the possibility of real declaration of conflict after all the tension being stirred.

- Christopher HitchensPopulists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.
Also, we're not fighting trench warfare anymore. It's way more about quality than quantity when it comes to soldiers these days.
Even if the most obscene situation happens and conscription were to start again, the government would still only need to pull from a very narrow age gap to meet any possible need.
I can't for the life of me think of an even halfway-reasonable scenario where anybody who was unable to volunteer would get conscripted. This is just a warmonger fantasy.

Immediately after WW2 there were tonnes of dictators. Some were allied with the Soviets. Many were allied with the US. Both propped up new ones. Eventually some grew the fuck up. Some backslid.
Last time the US went to war to remove a dictator what happened? Iraq is still arguably a shit show and it’s being used in a tug of war between two autocratic nations one of which is a US ally.
"what we didn't do in 2014 we'll do now if you invade Ukraine" said the Joe Biden
first off, what happened in 2014? And what is he going to do? He was completely vague on both in what was said in yesterday's talks. That's all we'll ever get.
