So... should I be using 24 bit @48KHz or 192KHz? Or even 16 bit instead of 24 bit? Trying to make sure things sound right. Some songs sound a little strange, like they are missing something, or have too much. Can certainly have something to do with the lower SNR on the TASCAM vs the Xonar DX.

Been thinking the same about my new essence stx. Is it really that bad to let it upsample from 44.1 to 96Khz? I'm getting white noise when I use 44.1 with the headphone amp.

As far as I know though, you should use 24bit over 16bit just in case if some of your tracks are recorded at that rate since it doesn't reduce the quality same way as upsampling the sample rate?

One audio geek told me to just do 24 bit @ 192KHz, but I do believe I've read here one time ages ago that that can actually have an effect kind of like diminishing returns. Not 100% sure, but I have a feeling 48KHz or 96KHz might be the best option.

They even went to the trouble of putting a Bitfenix sticker on it.

I laughed way too hard at that, especially the facebook comments.

what do you guys think of that paired with Astro A40?

    Underspending on the cans!
Make sure you have 3.5-to-6.3mm adapters.

Yeah I made sure to get the adapters, and I'm not really a huge spender on headsets, my friend suggested the A40 which was a bit pricey for me, but I can get the sound card for free, completely new It's still way beyond what I have right now - steelseries diablo 3 headset

An entry into the world of pricier audio I guess?

Razer is usually pretty gimmicky, but this is pretty cool imo. Not sure if this is feasible at all tho...

Fully modular mineral cooled desktop... Good luck geting manufacturers for those GPU's etc ^^

Careful what you do. Once you start down spending money on audio, you'll soon find you've dropped $1,000+ on the gear, and be like "wait, what?"

Let's see where I'm at now lol

Presonus Eris E5 studio monitors: $260 (price was lowered)
    TASCAM US-366: $205
ASUS Xonar DX: $45 (gift card was had)
    Audio Technica ATH-AD700: $100
    Shure SRH440: $100
If you want to include my Blue Snowball microphone... $75.

    So, around $785.

    Jeeeeeez.

$250 GTX 760 is looking cheap.

Imo it's not. The proximity of the RAM to the CPU, and the GPUs to the CPU, etc, is not coincidental. Corsair made it clear a while back during their look into mITX that the length of PCIe ribbons/extensions were making the design process very rapidly difficult, and this machine makes it abundantly clear that in its current state it holds little regard to it.

Can only quote very rough (and odd) NZ prices but off the top of my head...

    > Sennheiser HD558 (headphones) - $350
    > Xonar STX (soundcard) - $250
    > Corsair SP2500 (2.1 speakers) - $350
    > Cowon J3 (music player) - $450
    > Sennheiser IE7 (in-ear monitors)- $350
    > AudioEngine D1 (USB DAC) - $250
    > Microlabs Solo 7C (stereo speakers) - $200
    > Shure SM57 (mic) - $150
    > Steinberg Ci1 (interface) - $200

....aaand that's why I'm not buying any more goddamn audio stuff for a while to come. Urgh.

Inb4 some lunatic slams us with their $5000 collection.

My mate's macbook just died, and he is in the market for a desktop/hackintosh video editing build. Just came up with this, can you guys go over it real fast please? thx

CPU is a 4770k, it's on the next page of the shopping cart, only just noticed

I kind of meant underspending for a better dac to be worth it. As in, I'd rather invest in more headphone at that stage than both a sound card and headset.

I was just coming here to post this, it seems like a very good idea, similar to steam box.

Yeah Aus emits some kind of weird quantum waves so everything nearby starts getting converted. NZ has resisted very well so far, but occasionally there's a particularly strong one and people here randomly start saying "mate" in every line instead of "bro". It's a curious phenomenon. Also only seems to affect white people XD
